My son has a 1.0 ltr (52 reg) Yaris and i'm thinking of changing the oil in the gearbox, can any one tell me where the filler and drain plugs are, and how much oil would I need.

Hi,

From memory the manual gearbox holds 1.4ltrs of oil (I used semi synthetic oil) the filler and drain plugs can accessed easier if the black plastic cover is removed (there is no need to remove all the covers just the one underneath the gearbox, again from memory it's held on by 4 bolts - 10mm socket).

Both drain and filler plugs are the same size (24mm socket)(and are very tight) but you must replace the gaskets when refitting, these are made from aluminium and resemble washers, failure to renew these will almost certainly result in them leaking oil.

Hope that helps.

Nice one Stan! I was going to post about changing the gearbox oil as mine could do with a change.

Is the drain/filler plug in the same place on the 1.3 engine? Also, any photo's of where the drain & filler plugs are? ;)

Stan,

I'm aware of the 24mm plug at the bottom of the gearbox but no other of this size, there is a 18mm bolt a few inches above this with green paint on it. Could this be the filler?

Thanks for any advice.

Eric.

Hi,The filler plug is located at the front of the gearbox approx halway up, you can find it easily, follow the bottom radiator hose and halfway up you'll see the plug.Hope that makes sense! (Sorry for the delay but i have only just got back on the pc)

I'm not sure about the 1.3 engine but I suspect it might be, I dont know anyone local who has one but I will try to find out and post back.

Without a registration or chassis number I cannot guarantee but I suspect you do not have an "automatic" but a "multi-mode" transmission which is actually a manual gearbox with automated clutch and shift in which case you need 2ltr API GL-4 SAE 75W

Hi there.

I have a 2sz-fe (1.3L), automatic (I think it's a CVT transmission), so I'm about to reach 100.000km, and I don't know the correct reference of gearbox oil.

Can you guys help me, please?

Probably the Multi Mode Transmission - a manual gearbox with automated clutch.

Little tip for Gearbox oil change, don't drain the box before you have undone the filler plug. If you have a problem with the filler plug the car will still be drivable.

My '13 Yaris 1.33 CVT getting gearbox oil change this coming Saturday. Despite menu price of £102.86 it could be less. Not in service schedule but they've not tried to dissuade me from having it done. I'll report back how it went.

Car went to Toyota. They checked gearbox oil and filter. Didn't need changing. They didn't charge me anything either.
