Is It Worth Buying An Auris Now, Almost 3 Years After Its Initial Rele

I have had my T180 Auris since june 2007 just b4 i graduated uni. Its a good car. However it has had to be recalled 3 times over the sterring recall, the ecu recall and now the accelerator pedal recall. With toyotas choice to remove the 2.2 and 2.0 diesel engines from the range, coupled with the various complaints about the car is it correct to say that the auris is no longer worth a second thought? My auris will be given back to toyota in june this year as per terms of the contract hire agreement but i shall not be getting another one. I will either be getting the Hilux 3.0 automatic double cab, the Skoda Octavia VRS petrol with the DSG gearbox or the volkswagen sirrocco GTI with the DSG gearbox. If toyota were to bring out a proper petrol hot hatch auris with an auto box i would obv stay with the model but that isnt going to happen and the FT-86 isnt due out till next year at the earliest. Thoughts please

Auris without the 180 option is an average car getting less desirable...

Scirocco will hold its money quite well so the lease cost should be reasonable.

I'd go with the Skoda, best built of the three, most practical and the cheapest.

what of the hilux and the ocatavia vrs?

Octavia depends on the number of options but probably very good value as the list price is low and they hold a reasonable amount of value, Hi-Lux is very tricky as VAT element on commercials depends on usage and some lease co's will give it a low residual as they expect a hard life i.e lots of recon when it comes back, same goes for the lease's maintenance budget.

Is it worth buying an Auris... Nope!

You have a choice of a 1.4 Diesel, 1.3 and 1.6 Petrol, just what is there for the enthusiastic driver, nothing!

The Auris has become a car that's ok for popping to the shops, and a general family kick about!

The Skoda VRS isn't as interesting looking as the Scirocco, and the Auris just wouldn't be something many people want to return to.

A change would be nice I would have though, and the GTi just seems to have a nice ring to it.

I have been to a Vauxhall Dealer to see what I could get trade in for my T180 3 years old with only 21000 on the clock. They rang 8 other dealers to get a price and the offers were low,(compared to Glasses Guide) would have been higher had it been a petrol. You can draw your own conclusion, but it look's like the diesel is not a desirable car.

To be honest this is what dealers do, 14 months ago I went to part chop my CTR this was 4.5 years old with only 30k on the clock and mint. I was offered £4200 best and one garage even offered £2750, does this make a CTR an a undesirable car?

As you can see for yourself this was mint and at the time would cost around £10k at an Honda dealer but I will add that cars where not selling well in Jan 09

!Removed! minter of a car mate!

Very clean! ;)

Thats my point I owned this car from 6k / 2 years old and TBH this never left the garage all week and if it was raining at the weekend it would stay there unless we was going a long way. About 4 months before I swapped to the T180 I spent £1000 on fitting a genuine Honda AC kit as these did not have this as standard hence optional extra

After AC Kit Was Fitted

I never even used the AC apart from testing this when I first fitted it, can you imagine the look on my face when they only offered £2750 for a car with an asking price of around £10k at a Honda dealer  I thought I was hearing things and I did know that dealers were struggling to sell cars at the time but even this and the max I was offered £4250 takes the **** by a long way

Rick i can't see why you sold it!

Any savings in running costs will have been wiped out by depreciation, in the long term the CTR will bottom out and then hold its value. Did you sell it private in the end?

The problem was this was becoming a very expensive toy, we had 2 cars only used 1 that alone has high costs involved. Then on top of that we would have sold the wife's car (ka) but she is a nurse so the CTR would not last long in a hospital car park, the other problem we had was no matter where we parked I was getting fed up of people parking at the side of us and denting the car. We always park at the other end of the car park but I think jealous people do this on purpose, With the T180 we have a better motorway cruiser with more toys and this does give a lot better MPG as short local runs at this time of the year was around 10-15MPG with the CTR (T180 around 30-35MPG that is a big difference) and the fact the T180 does not look the part even through it is quick hence no one keeps denting it for me. The CTR was on finance so as I had paid half I returned the car to Honda finance under Halves rule which meant we had just leased the car for 2.5 years http://www.civinfo.com/forum/buying-dealer...alves-rule.html This was the only way we got rid of the CTR without and bother and not owing any money on it, I might have sold private for around a £1k more in my pocket but in Jan 09 people was not buying cars so it was not worth the hassle. I did remove most of the extras I had fitted which in total made me around £600 but sadly the AC stopped on the car as it was to much hassle to remove it. The other plus was the T180 we paid £11k for a car 15months old with 15k on the clock and the optional extra sat nav fitted, this would have been just shy of £20k new and a T180 2.5 years old and 30k on the clock is still fetching over £11k at Toyota so with buying at a bad time for dealer the depreciation is working out lower on the T180. I would have a guess that when the T180 is 5 years old we should get around £7k easy enough so not to worried about that.

I am happy with the T180 apart form the MPG is around 5MPG less than we expected, I will say I agree about the interior could be better for a £20k top of the range Auris but we did know what is was like when we bought it so have no gripe with this. I also know people moan about dash rattles but if you can spend half an hour to pin point them they are very easy to cure and like the local dealer says a lot of this has been caused by after market bluetooth kits being fitted etc, we have had no major dash rattle problems TBH I did have a little on the trim around the clocks but I just removed this applied a little silicone spray and refitted and it has not rattled since which IMO is not bad for a 2min job.

Giving it back makes sense not a lot of people are aware of this, shame you can't have anything nice though because t**t will damage it.

YEs mate that is the truth of it, there is no end of CTRs that get stolen and even a lot at knife point, and then the damage we even had a small ding on the pillar at the side of the window screen that has to be 100% sure a :censor: 4x4 owner. I just got sick of paying a dent guy to pull out dents caused by other peoples jealousy and a friend has a dings all over his as well caused by others. We have only had 1 dent done on the T180 in Swindon 3 days after we bought this, we have it all on CCTV where a women parked at the side of our car and opens her door into ours than shuts her door and parks elsewhere. The best bit is because she never admitted it and you cant see the damage on our car with the CCTV the police cant do anything :censor: :censor: :censor: makes me so made the bint creased all our door around a 12" long and a crease at 5" long with 2 dents. The dent guy got all these out thank god and I have no idea how as a mate who runs a spray shop said the dents would come out but not the creases. http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...c=92472&hl= makes me so mad and I even had to get rid of her name and address as otherwise I would have done something I would get caught for and regret.

I can only sympathsise with this. My dad has a 6 series bmw convertible, the 4.5 litre V8 one (a car in a diff class than an auris im sure) and his heart is in his mouth when he sometimes has to park it in multi-story or massive car parks because other people might drive sheds and just not look at where they are opening their doors to if they park next to it. I must say i have had one tiny tiny dint in the passenger front door of my auris due to things like this but sadly your not going to get rid of these t**ts.

I hope your not implying the BMW is superior and should be given more respect than anyones elses pride and joy!

If you take a big car in a Multi-storey your asking for it, its the only time i would fancy an Aygo or similiar
