Engine Oil - 15w 40

Howdy

Can i put 15W 40 engine oil in my Gen 7 Celica - heard if your car has high mileage its a good idea..??

Plus did Haynes ever do a manual for a Gen 7.

If you want to kill your Engine..yes. I would recommend 5W30 for a 140, and 5W40 for a 190.

Unfortunately, there isn't a Haynes for the 7 (or the 6 AFAIK)

i bought mine with a bottle of 10w40 in the back, which is obviously what is in the engine.. is that a problem? im new to toyotas :)

A very high proportion of Engine wear occurs on initial start. Therefore, you want an Oil that is thin enough to circulate and protect as quickly as possible. A 10W has a slightly thicker viscosity than the 5W that is recommended by Toyota. Another benefit of the 5W over the 10W is your Starter Motor won't have to work as hard in very cold temperatures as the thinner Oil will mean it will meet less resistance.
