Only me again!! Recently noticed some small rips/tears in the side of the right hand side, lower part of the drivers side seat?? I can't see how this is something we have done - do you think this is a warranty issue? Answers on a postcard please??

Hi again Parky,

I'm sure another member had a similar problem - there was a thread about it but I can't find it. If I remember correctly Local Hero contirbuted to the thread so maybe he can point you in the right direction.

If the damage is in the creases of the leather it is unlikely to have been ripped - more likely to have worn through. Personally I don't think that is acceptable on such a new car. Worth peruing a warranty repair.

The last car I had with leather seats was a Volvo and that had no signs of splitting after 14 years and 160k miles.

I am keeping an eye on the seats in my XTR as I am aware that the leather creases quite considerably on the outward side of the driver seat.

Good luck

The modified seats are from May 2008. Anything before should be covered so go back and dig in.

cheers Ancs, I have just e mailed the garage again. They were telling me to go to the garage which is nearer to me and get them to look into it. I have told them that as I got the car from them, they can ring the garage nearer me and tell them to sort it. Also that the fix is for cars pre 08. Do you not think they will just say the warranty is up???? Im not sure how comprehensive the Toyota 2used" car warranty is???

cheers again

Shaun

just spoke to another Toyota garage who says the trim isnt covered and my warranty is up anyway. the used warranty doesent cover trim. I told them about this service bullitin but they dident seem intrested. Just said let us have a look and wel ask Toyota for you. Why the hell should I do a 80 mile round trip to let them see the splitting when I can e mail a photo and they know theres a problem anyway as they have the bullitin. Im gonna lamp somone in a minute. Ive just recovered from the RF wheel issue, now my leather is splitting lol.

With everything that's been thrown at them just lately...you'd think that they would be doing anything they can to 'keep the customer happy' email the pics and a copy of the TSB - see what effect that has?? :o

I emailed a photo and the TSB. they say they need to see it to determine if its normal wear and tear OR faulty material. I told him its the latter as its splitting at the exact point that the TSB diagram shows. Also that i aint spending my day off driving all the way there to show them summit than can be seen in a photo. Told him if they arnt gonna fix it they can come and take the car away and give me my money back. I have 30 days to decide on this anyway according to the contract

he reply from the sales manager at RMB Toyota Teeside. Great after sales care eh?? I also pointed out that is so called Super Duper checks that are done on their second hand cars failed to notice that the tyre pressures in mine were all vastly different. One was down to 20 psi, another was 35!!!! This is a car that was MOTd by them the day beofre the tyre warning light came on telling me there was a problem. Anyway, e mail below.

Dear Shaun,

I'm afraid the 30 day exchange is not that straight forward. Firstly, the car must have developed a fault that has occured whilst the customer has had the vehicle. We would then look to rectify the mechanical issue within 3 attempts. Only if all this fails, do we notify Toyota of the exchange coming into process. Toyota GB have very little to do with used car sales and leave everything down to the dealerships.

The main issue here with your car is that yes, the rip will not be covered by the warranty due to the nature of people sitting on the seat where some clothing or keys etc... could have caused the rip. Also, we can't recollect the vehicle having any damage on the seat when you collected it and you did sign a form saying that you've received the car is satisfactory condition. As part of our preparation process, we check over and view the car on several occassions making sure the car is of the highest standards and within Toyota's used car standards. We would not display a vehicle with a ripped seat as it would obviously not sell. If you had come back to us within a day or two regarding the rip, then that would have had some gravity to the issue. The fact that your coming to us after 10 days, leaves me no option but to reject your claim. The rip could have happened at any point during the last 10 days. Again, you did sign for the vehicle is satisfactory condition.

You are welcome to contact Toyota GB on this issue, who will then contact us and will tell them the same decision and why.

My XT5 is just coming up to two years old and was fine - UNTIL I TOOK A LOOK AT IT THIS AFTERNOON! It has done 16,000 miles from new and is better looked after than the wife ( she says ). Have a look at: CIMG1435.jpgno obvious problem here BUT

how about this: CIMG1436copy.jpg

It is due for it's second service soon so will raise the issue with them then. IMHO if you have multiple splits, the issue has existed for sometime.

Aaarrrgghh just looked at mine and its the same, with two rips.

It still amazes me what I discover on this forum, not sure if I wanted to find out about this one though-as had the car 9 months (its coming up to 4 years old)and clearly have no chance of getting a repair by Toyota, which in the scheme of things is probably reasonable.

Though a totally different matter if I had had the car for only 10 days, that dealer needs boycotting !-absolutely outrageous.

Would glueing the rips with a strong adhesive help ?

Regards

...............did I mention the 2.2 diesel engines exploding TSB? Joking, joking, joking!!!

This is actually one that I think should be honoured under an extended warranty as the process for failure begins the moment the seat is sat on as opposed to a fault in manufacture. However, I never really examined my seats that closely on the last one and although I would have had it done under warranty if I had found it, I probably wouldn't have lost any sleep if they refused it out of warranty. If I intended keeping the car I would get a new cover off Kingo and fit it myself (the instructions are available as part of the seat heater instructions - look at items 32-34;

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/legacy/To...l%20version.pdf

You can get vinyl and leather weld adhesive so of cours that would be worth a try first.

Right, Rang Toyota (01737 367 600) Diffiernt number to the website

Got a nice chap who I explained what has been going on regarding this seat and the tyre pressures etc. He said as the car has a used Toyota warranty with it, he can see no reason why Toyota wont fix this since the TSB was issued in 08. He told me I had to go to a Toyota dealer, let them see the seat, show them the TSB and they would then have to put the claim into Toyota. He was quite gobsmacked at the way RMB have handled this and told me to use a different dealer, even though RMB should be sorting it as they sold the car aith the warranty. He told me to send the letter I have written in to Toyota aswell. Keep you posted

Had reply from Toyota today and they arnt going to change my seat. They spoke to RMB Toyota where I got the car and they told Toyota that it was 10 months out of warranty and the used car warranty does not cover the seat problem. However they did get a <the spuds of lurrrrvve>ing for my tyre pressures lol so thats a result. Ill just buy a new seat cover when/if this one gets worse. One thing is for sure, I wont be paying MrT for extending my 1 year warranty. Well thats that. DONT BUY FROM RMB TEESIDE. They are W*****S. Maybe I should go to Trading Standards now
