Auris T180 - Mr T Is Taking The P..

Should be no suprise that Mr T's charges for its services are somewhat elevated compared to other garages, but I am shocked to see the true extent.

As my car undergoes some warranty work and the accelerator pedal fix, I thought I would carry out a full service (even though the car had one done about 10k miles before - had driven it quite hard.).

Firstly, I am shocked that so little is actually replaced/replenished/topped up (air filters, sparks, fuel filters, brake pads, brake/clutch fluid - not covered) and is actually just a huge list of checklist checks. When you compare this to what most other garages offer, why would anyone service at Mr T especially as regulations have changed such that servicing elsewhere does not invalidate warranty.

What a waste of £200!! Ps. I managed to haggle this down from £250 in the first place before I even took the car in.

I'm then called and told that the car requires attention in several areas and the associated charges are as followed:

- Air filter - £20

- Wipers (£30) - I checked that the £30 buys you just the rubber strip (not the entire blade) - Are people just muppets?

- Front brake pads are 90% worn- £100 to replace

- Wheel tracking is recommended - £80

- Brake fluid - £100!!

- Clutch fluid - £85!!

(The above two were advisable)

- Lastly, as the car is approaching the age of 3 years, I should recharge the airconditioning gas at cost of £90

Total cost: £685!

What is making me even more angry is that a local, reputable and decent garage offers a full service including MOT (although the car won't need an MOT for another 4months) for £235 and that includes everything above with the exception of wheel tracking and aircon recharge (they quoted at less than half the price as Mr T). I'm only getting the brakes, air filter and tracking done for which a tenner was knocked off (as even taking it to local garage would not have saved a huge amount).

Conclusion - Never take the car to Mr T unless it requires warranty work which is free.

I can't believe I could have saved at least a third to a half of the cost of a new twin TMS silencer, matching rear skirt, painted and fitted!! by not paying £200 for the service. Arghh

I think my 1 year service cost was low 100's... like £110 or something. Perfectly happy with that.

They change the oil / fluids and filter if need be. Give it a check over etc... Can't really remember what's involved but no need to change all the filters if not needed.

They even pick up the car, give me a courtesy car and return my car all clean too. In my book thats money well spent.

I had the 20k service done around June 09 this included the brake fluid change etc and that was around £170 with the usual courtesy car and car wash, I suspect your local dealer does not want to see you again by the figures you quote. I had the 4 wheel laser alignment done at MR T this was £80 with the usual courtesy car and car wash, but when I had it done at an independent specialist with the same equipment they charged me £60 and set the car up to the wrong chassis. I know this as I asked MR T what the setting where due to the car handing terrible and tram-lining all over, I did get a refund an IMO was well worth the extra £20 rather than wait for around 1 hour for my car and for my car to be tracked properly.

I'm not sure what you mean by taking it for a FULL service, many of the items you mention just do not need replacing every 20K like in the bad old days. Air filters and Fuel filters last longer than they ever did, You don't have plugs in your T180, brake pads only need changing when worn out and we do brake fluid changes every 20K for £52 all in. Vote with your feet and find a dealer that will give your a more competitive quote

Kingo

They change the oil and filter, worth £30, look through the holes of the alloys at the brakes, they dont remove the wheels, let the kid in the yard wash it and give you it back, thats it. Extremely bad value in my book.

Is this what your beloved Vauxhall dealer do for you? Well I know thats not 100% true as I am sure you pay a lot more than £30

Whats it got to do with what vauxhall dealers do? Their first service, if you can call it that, is a rip off too, was about £90 for less that an hours work including washing it.

I wouldn't have a garage touch any any of my 3 cars or bikes if it wasn't for the warranty, I would always do it myself as I do as soon as they reach 3 years old.

A lot of this is very true and a lot of people will agree but the fact is ALL the dealers do the same for around the same price not just Toyota and if I am right I think BMW are about the most expensive at around £120PH labour + vat. The point is you was more than happy to slag MR T off for the price of a service when your beloved Vauxhall dealer does exactly the same for you. PMSL

I do not love vauxhall dealers I do not love any dealer and I was not slagging mr t, my local toyota dealer tried and tried again to solve problems with my t180, it was out of their hands it is the arrogant bully aproach of Toyota corporate, I am really glad to see what goes around came around!
