Changing The Airconditioning Filter 1998

This is a quick warning after my little experience of buy a cheaper filter kit from Euro Car Parts. I saw the price of around £20 pounds for the filters so went to Euro Car Parts and actually paid £22. The web site did state the price will be higher at the store.

When changed the filters, I could not get the upper filter locate into position. It was when I compared it with the original filter that I realised that I had the left hand drive version. It is Hengst brand.

It was too late to go back to the Catford branch so the next day, went to Wembley which is much larger. They had other brands in stock and again they were all for left hand drive Avensis.

So Euro Car Parts have lots of cabin filters for lefthand drive Mk1 Avensis. I got a refund and now have a genuine Denso filter which fitted easily. It cost £38 just £7 more expensive than the the most expensive filter for Euro Car Parts. I am glad I did not do Mail order. The hassle of sending back. It is the first time the filters have been changed during my ownership - 6 years. I normally clean it.

Just thought I would share.

Thanks indeed, - I just bought some brake pads as my first order with them yesterday, and was going to buys some of those filters with the next order as Toyota prices were so expensive for such little filters - like you I have always manually cleaned them after the usual struggle of removing and fitting the upper filter.

Here is a tips to any body buying third party cabin filters for Mk1 Avensis from Euro Car Parts or any other source.

Hold filter with the handle to your right. In that position, you should be looking at the air-con side. The other side has a lip along the bottom of the filter which would face the front of the car when installed. If the lip is facing you, then it is for the left hand drive. This lip fouls the matrix preventing the filter being slid into position,

The lower filter is also designed to fit one way too. Since they are a kit, you only need to check the upper filter.

Best thing is to compare before you buy and asked the vendor to confirm it is correct for UK cars. Some vendors don't even realise what they are selling.

I hope somebody from Euro Car Parts see this and checks their stock. They will have a lot off worthless Avensis Mk1 filters, they cannot shift in the UK. Hopefully is it only the left/right hand drive part that is a problem.
