New To Diesels

I'm totally new to diesels. I thought diesels had their own oil. But looking at oil recommended for My D4D it comes up Castrol Magnetec 5w30 or Edge 5w30 which can be used in petrol engines.

So are new oils suitable for petrol and diesels ??

Have always used the Magnetec stuff. This good enough for the D4D ?

Engine oils suitable for both petrol and diesel engines have been around for a long time and it was usually the cost factor that made a difference.:)

normally lube oil for diesels demands more alkality to neithralise sulphur in diesel -- to prevent an acid corrosoin of the liner; rings etc. the mordern lubes are seem to be uneversal and suit to both petrol and diesel engines. you'd just read the name plate of apply.
