Yaris Gear Knob

Hi all,

I just bought a Yaris 1.3 T-Spirit (Mar 07) and the colour on the top of the gear knob has come off. So it still has the silver finish on the sides, but the top is white! The car has done just over 20k miles and the warranty runs out at the end of March. I've booked it in for a service next Wednesday just to make sure everything is ok, but I was wondering if this is normal? I understand wear and tear will always happen, but for the finish to come off like that?

This is my first Toyota so not sure if something like that would be covered in the warranty? And by the way, it has a manual transmission :)

Thanks in advance!

I doubt it would be covered under warranty as it seems like wear and tear. The dealer could argue that the previous owner wore a ring or something which scratched it off. If that's all you've got to worry about on a 3 year old car then you're doing alright!

Do you drive with your hand resting on your knob? That could make it rub off. ;)

Sorry, there had to be a knob gag in there somewhere!

Attaching a photo...the flash was turned off so the white you see on top is actually what it looks like after the colour has come off and the line on the side is where the original colour starts...

Has this happened to anyone else? I know wear and tear happens, but this just doesn't look normal!

The dealer didn't want to replace it under warranty! Says it's wear and tear

try another dealer and then, take ALL the repairs there instead of Mr. I cantbebotheredtohelpyou. Then, complain to Toyota G.B. about him (After the swap, in case they agree with him)!!

An update...

I just got back from another dealer and I have to say - the service between the two is worlds apart. Excellent service at the second dealer, he said they'll definitely replace the gear knob under warranty and even said they'll replace the glove box (He saw it on the service notes from the first dealer...the clip is broken...and I asked them to see if they can only replace the clip but it needs a new glove box which would've cost me £135!)
