Rav Cd Player

Hi,

I've just bought a 2001 Rav4 NV (2.0L). It's got the standard fit tape player with the buttons for a disk changer but the changer is no longer in the car. I just wondered if anyone is selling either the CD player head unit or a changer that will fit my Rav? I'm based in the UK just so you know.

Many thanks

Sian

Hi Sian, Welcome to TOC :driving:

The standard Toyota Radio head unit always has the CD Changer Control buttons there even when there was no CD-Changer specified. It is very unlikely your RAV, as NV spec, ever had the CD changer installed (I think it was only the VX spec that had it as standard). And if it the case that it was never fitted, then you will need to source both the CD-Changer AND the Wiring loom from Radio to Changer.

Toyota CD Changers can often be found on eBay at fairly reasonable prices (often sold with the Sat-Nav unit in fact), but the wiring for the CD Changer tends to be much rarer. You could be better off getting the CD/Radio head unit as you mentioned as an option - again, try eBay.

The same unit is fitted to some Celicas, Land Cruisers and probably other Toyota Models, so long as you search for "Toyota CD" rather then "RAV4 CD" you have more chance of finding a match. the Unit size is a "2-Din Wide" BTW.

Other option is fit an aftermarket 1 or 2 Din (double-height) unit and buy off the internet the various fillets and trims to make up the gap (this is the option I went for)

Hoovie is of course completely correct.

On the very slim chance that a changer has been fitted in the past, have a look under the passenger seat, to see if there is a loose connector, coming up through the carpet. If there is, you may be in luck, i.e. the harness may already be there. The connector would look something like this:

It's a slim chance though and Hoovie's other suggestions may be better anyway.
