Pollen Filter - Look At Yours!

When looking at Anchormans new Rav he asked if I had ever looked at my pollen filter - answer was no as my T180 is only 2 years old and has done just over 8000 miles.

It was a case of show me yours and I will show you mine!

His was pure white and clean - mine was pitch black and covered in dead insects, pine needles and seeds and other rubbish. Needless to say a new one is on order.

To be fair it was doing it's job in keeping out all the rubbish from the interior of the car but I do not think it is changed on a service until much later and wonder what yours will be like if you do a high mileage?

Don't ask me how to change it - Anchorman had it out in seconds from behind the passenger drop down locker.

I was quoted £30 to change mine at a service...

... So I asked to speak to someone in parts, purchased one for £12 and fitted it myself at the front of the dealership!

Hi Guyster....When I allowed Anchs to interfere with McRavvity a few weeks ago, and I showed him how to fit MY I-Pod and bluetooth wiring, he suggested he wheech out my Pollen filter whilst he had my dashboard in 16 bits. I know how to do it, it's dead easy, and at less than 8000 miles, I was going to leave a while yet.

Ye Gods...it was, as we say up here, totally bowfin'....the deceased insects had obviously been enjoying an 11-a-side match when they died.

Moral...will check and at leat Panasonic every 5k miles (don't have a Hoover...). He had a new one in stock, which he sold me for £74.99...good guy, Guy.

Just as well you're so young and healthy, breathing in all those dead Derbyshire bugs.

Big Kev

£74.99? I let that one get away half price..........

Get you next time Kevster. Now if I can bamboozle Local Hero into changing his cabin filter I might just get that silencer off while he's head scratchin'

Tell him his new exhaust is causing cabin filter to choke, and they are £299.00 a whip. Would look pretty duff...twin pipes on your new one....ah'll buy them.

Big Kev. :)

I've never checked mine. Is it done at any of the services?

I doubt it - not unless you asked them or they asked you. Be prepared for a shock Simon. It is dead easy and takes no more than 5 minutes even if you've never done it before.

I seem to remember being told it would be changed on my Avensis at 20k miles, but they would ask permission before doing so, coz it's so easy to do (and cheap) that most folk tell MrT to "hurry along" and do it / already have done it themselves.

As Anchs said Simon, and depending how old your Rav wiff the nice wheels is, be prepared for a shock. Personally I would order one up first, then do the wee job. REMEMBER TO FIT IT DIRECTIONALLY. The air you breathe thereafter will be like being in Scotland......fresh, heather scented, bloomin' freezin', and fulla raindrops !!!!

Hi Kev,

Only thing I remember of the air in Scotland is that it was full of midges! But when I worked at Tomatin Distillery it smelt better there but never got a chance to taste the product then but my staff did manage it somehow but never let me have a sample.

Best wishes to all who look at their pollen filters now

Guy

PS Have a slightly battered T180 now as a telephone pole jumped out and hit the back end last night as I reversed into a pub - no I did not have a drink, only collecting my wife who was out with her old ladies!

Bill will be well over £300 at local body shop - next time I will use her Auris !

Yes I did feel very silly especially as my wife and her three friends saw it happen - the beeps did not go off very loud as it was more on the left side than right at the very back or that is my excuse - the only time I have damaged any bodywork in very many years.

I am sure the telephone pole was moved by a Triffid and then quickly put back - I might have felt better if I had knocked it down !! Will drown my sorrows with a glass or two of cider tonight but at home!!

To make it worse my wife misread her fancy watch and asked to be collected an hour early.
