P1228 Fault Code

Hi all. this is my first post and i apologise coming with a problem rather than a solution. i would welcome some advice.

The EML light is on my 2003 2.0 D4D rav4. My symptons are as follows

On a cold start the light comes on almost straight away, there seems to be very little power and oomph. .its almost like driving a 1.0 litre car. accelerator fully pressed down but very little response .

when it warms up a little and after restarting the engine it is slightly better but light does come on after 15-20 mins of driving.

ive had the fuel filter changed (cheapest option first) but has had no impact

can anyone suggest what to try next??

Welcome to the forum. Have you searched on the forum as P1228 on the diesels seems quite common. I'm sure the oil burners will be along shortly .

Hi Ahmed + welcome to TOC, unfortunately I am not the best person to answer technical questions, (mainly cos I am thick) but having been on here a while now, the fault you describe and error code I believe refers to the SCVs.. Suction control valves, I think they can be replaced with basic mechanical skills, + we have our very own Toyota parts supplier called Parts King, who should be able to get them to you at a discount, Please wait for confirmation of my amateur diagnosis + meanwhile do a search for SCVs or even google P1228 Toyota for more insight, hope this helps.. Stew

You're not thick, you're just good at self-deprecation  (no, I don't know what it means, but I thought it sounded impressive  )

From the evidence on here, you do yourself an injustice LH

Hey LH, I think shcm just said you are doing something that is making you worth less as time passes :P

I wouldn't stand for that if I were you

Neither would I, or the bad speeling. Anyway, it might be true, if Taxi fairs haven't gone up in a while. :P

Sorry, Ahmed, seriously off topic. :offtopic:

don't tempt me....naw - too late. Few on this forummny will have as many diesels as wot I have now - 10 at the last count. I have never had so many problems compared to the petrol RAVs I have - - - the diesels seem to be over-complicated, fiddly, far too many doors and hinges, and beyond many peoples understanding > including dealers.

I'll welcome you to the forum, and we obtain most our members here in the same fashion - needing help with their oily burning RAV, so theres loads of info on here if you search for it...and you needn't search far!! Keep asking the questions until you have a car that is enjoyable to drive - which is why you bought the thing I guess. Remember to oil the hinges of the doors and post up some pics when you get a chance.

Hey if SHCM says i am good at something, whatever it is  thats praise enuff for me  As long as its not self defecating, which may or may not mean something quite different. :shutit:

One of the things I occasionally say upon receiving a compliment for something I've done is, "Well, even a blind squirrel gets some nuts?" I guess this would make self-deprecating humor a kissing cousin to false-modesty. But so what? If I were truly modest (I can neither confirm nor deny the reports of my modesty), would that make it funnier? (you've probably guessed, I didn't write this :) )

Dont know what this means either  but sounds inter..intelli..interlect.. :help: dead clever.. Stew

Now sincerest apologies to Ahmed for diverting his serious question, we do sometimes stray :offtopic: but its all part of the fun

Did you find any help with your original query Ahmed..?
