New Avensis 09' Ecu Location ?

Hallo everybody

I tried to search for the ECU but no result

If anybody knows please write

I checked the complete area by passenger and driver leg cocpit

The only one place is the engne area - one electronic box is mounted

between air filter and fuse box - but this one is impossible to disconnect

I follow up main cruise control installation in my new Avensis 2009 2.0 D4D (3-rd generation).

If somebody interested i made a short description on polish foruml:

http://avensis.info/viewtopic.php?t=6511&a...hlight=tempomat

To test it finally I need to find the ECU - pin A23 should be the signal connected to the cruise switch

Regards

I think the ECU is still located behind the glove box. Have to take the glove box out to get to it. This is where the pollen filter should be located as well.

I checked espacially this location - but either the ECU is somewhere deep inside the plastics or covered by any other device.

Generally there is not much place...

the ECU is in the engine bay, where you said, between the air filter and fuse box. it has water tight connectors, be very carefull how you test the pin out signals as it is very easy to puncture the seals. Hope this helps you

But how to disconnect the plugs from it ???

The black cover is mounted on cutted screws (looks like screwed and then screw head cutted).

For me the only one possibility is to drill this screws...but still not much place becouse of

the connected cable leght keep whole box close to the assembling place...

If you know any other easy way to get the plug out of the ECU please write :)

I'm refreshing the topic

If you disconnect the multiplugs plugs from the ECU would the system then fail to communicate so there would be no signal anyway, also I would think the signal would be read on the Canbus system requiring the use of a reader. I have in the past read the analog signal from the loom without unplugging the multiplug by using a very small but sharp pin to penetrate the outer part of the wire into the copper core then connect this to your multimeter, to do this you have to identify which single wire you are looking for in the loom either by colour or number printed on the wire. It is recommended to use some insulation tape to reseal the loom after you use the pin method.

Regards Pete.

Hi,

This won't help you very much, but I have the impression that you are trying to install a cruise control into a T27 diesel, that was not designed for the T27.

That's why you get stuck on the installation & test instructions, because the T27's ECU is not where you expect and the connector is sealed tight.

The cruise control for the T27 (petrol) that I know of, consists of 3 separate units:

- A control unit

- An interface box

- and a command module, to be installed on the steering column.

It comes with a wiring harness specifically for the T27 and plugs into the gas pedal.

After installation, it runs a built-in diagnostic sequence and if all is well, allows customization for take-over reaction time and "aggression level" to speed changes.

No opening of the car's ECU or wiring required, because that would be very difficult or next to impossible on a T27.

Please look at:

That's a ECU installation of Auris with same engine.

The pin which i'm physically looking for is A23

Tempomat.pdf

Look at my attachment - the switch is now mounted.

If you compare the electric diagram then the pins are correct with it in reality (e.g under the steering wheel)

Now only the ECU connection is missing - later i will make a photo to show how the ECU is mounted

My problem now is neither disconnect of what to disconnect but how to remove the strange cover mounted on the ECU.

Due to this cover it is not possible to disconnect any plug.

True.

I don't know what the ECU in the Auris physically looks like, but that's why, in my previous post, I mentioned a T-harness specifically designed for the T27.

The cruise control and the T27's ECU then communicate via the gas pedal connector.

Note, that there are switches and brackets required on the brake- and clutch pedals of the T27 as well, to deactivate the cruise control as soon as either pedal is touched.

auris ecu looks the same as the latest avensis and is in the same location

Thanks, I guessed so.

I think Toyota was forced on the T27, and Auris, to move the ECU to the engine bay, simply because there was no space left under the dashboard.

The engine bay is not a very favourable place for such a vulnerable and vital piece of electronics, so they did the utmost to make it water-, damp- and air tight, and make it almost impossible to brake those seals, just to protect it.

Unfortunately, that also means that it is virtually impossible to physically "tap into" it, for whatever reason, without jeopardizing its integrity.

That's the reason why, in this case, after-market cruise control manufacturers have to come up with a different solution of interfacing their product with the ECU, without tampering with the box itself, or its wiring.

For instance, mine took 2.5 hours to install, of which drilling the hole for the control stalk was the most time consuming part.

I could install a cruise control on my Avensis T27 D4D 2.0 Diesel version Luna.

All is working perfect - the olny problem wast to install the cable between ECU and connector below the steering wheel.

On Sol version it was enough just to install the switch in the steering wheel.

Pleas ask if you some more info.
