Automatic Transmission/power Steeringfluid Top Up

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi

I have a 1991 Carina II 1.6 with Automatic transmission for last 12 years.

I have changed engine oil every year or so, but never changed Automatic Transmission oil nor Power steering fluid.

I can see both oils require top up, or should I need to replace them completely periodically or just top them up.

Do I need to get particular brand of AT Oil or the one from Halfords is enough?

Any comment appreciated.

Kind regards

You should be changing the power steering fluid about every three years. I replace mine at the same time as my brake fluid. As for the trans fluid, autos are even more delicate than manual boxes and you should change the oil at least as often as you do the engine oil and filter. With it being an older car i would advise you do these ahead of the service schedule just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll change them all then.
