Diesel 180 New Model - Intermediate Oil Change.

Hi guys.

My New model T4 180BHP Diesel is approaching 6,000 miles.

Although the first service is not due till 12k, other diesel cars (such as BMW & Vauxhall) are often advised to change the Oil & Filter at the mid point between manufacturers service intervals if you intend to keep the car for a long time.

Any thoughts on whether this is a good for Toyota Diesels as well?

Thanks

In my opinion, it's a good rule for all diesels due to the amount of carbon produced. If it does nothing else, it reduces carbon build up and keeps the internals generally cleaner.

I have to agree, M8 of mine is an independant mechanic who seriously recommends a mid interval change, The oil gets seriously sooted up on a diesel, I've also seen other manufactures forums recommending mid interval changes for diesels (was a diesel Jag owner before change to avensis)

I own all the vehicle types you mention and have never seen a recomendation to do this oil change.

It will do no harm as long as you use the correct oil, I think its a waste of money and resources, modern engines and oils do not need it. The important thing being the exact oil.
