Exhausts And Bhp

I've got a 1l Yaris and would like to change the exhaust. I would go for the Remus exhaust with 2 pipes made for the Yaris.

Does anyone know if I will gain in BHP by fiting a new exhaust without tempering the cat?

You will get very little power increase by changing the exhaust even less as ur not loosing the cat!

Couple of bhp if ur lucky i would have thought if that!!

Hi vasko

Welcome to the club mate. Hope that you enjoy the site  I would have thought that you would get at least 2-3 bhp more combined with a piper induction kit you should be looking at 6 bhp more maybe????? Might not be a lot but it will keep you in front of those corsa's and saxo's

OK then thanx for the replies. My factory exhaust looks very ugly. It certainly isn't from stainless steel because after three years of use it has changed to redish brown. I think I'll go for that exhsaust because it looks pretty goog and I suppose it sounds good. I think I'll stay away from removing the cat because I don't know what kind of damage that can do. Is there anything that can be done to the 1l that can boost power?

just adding an an axleback exhaust or a universal muffler, to ur stock piping won't get u any gains. in fact, adding anything to that puny 1L won't get u far.

it's purely an economical engine. but, to get any single digit HP gains, u'd have to do the whole deal. cold air intake, headers and a full or catback exhaust system, either bolt on, or custom made piping. i'd suggest 2-2.25" piping.

yeah that seems a logical thing to do in my opinion. if you are after a better noise then a back bos will do taht but no real power gains

Hi Ryan1985

Well i would say yes. As the first time you go out in it you start driving it harder so you can hear the sound of in. Combined with the induction kit you will love the sound that they make together. So naturally the mpg will be a lot less.

But after a month or so once you are used to the sound and it's no big thing anymore you will notice that your mpg will return to a more sensible figure again. In fact a induction kit and exhaust is meant to be better than a standard exhaust as it's less restricted and there is better gas flow + breathing. So you should get better mpg maybe??
