Chiptuning Rav4 2.2D-Cat

Hi Guys,

My first forum post, please be gentle :-)

I just bought a secondhand 2006 RAV4 2.2d-4d d-cat dpf executive 177hp in the Netherlands, I believe in the UK it's called a T180(?)

Since I will be driving long distances I have been looking into chiptuning my car! Obviously the extra power is nice as wel l:-p

I understand that OBD tuning is not a possibility since the ECU is a processor instead of a memory chip. Is this correct?

I'm now left in a wood of powerboxes, piggybacks and whatever else they are called! There are huge price variations on offer from chiptuning companies ranging from 277 euros up to 900 euros. I haven't even looked on eBay or other websites! These are genuine tuning companies. Most of them seem to offer an increase to 207hp and 460nm. I have also found a box that claims to increase performance to 228hp and 506nm torque! (p-tronic.be)

I'm really puzzled on how to find out which chipset is a good buy, that won't destroy the d-cat engine. Which could happen when using a powerbox instead of obd tuning.

None of the dealers advertise who the producer is of their "powerbox"! And I find it a bit to convenient that most dealers manage to get 207 hp and 460nm out of their own developed chipset/software!

So what is a good buy? What is a good brand? And can I get it installed in the Netherlands?

Contact Parts-King for info re tuneing chips - comments on this site seem to be very positive for the ones he can supply. You will find posts from him on this site.

Any idea on howto send a PM on this new forum?

Click on "Members" at the top for the members list.

When the Members List appears, click on the "Use advanced filters" button (top-right) and enter "Parts-King" for the name. Then click on the "Apply Filters" button (bottom-left of the search filter).

His profile should appear, then click on the envelope icon to "PM this member".

Hi Flash + welcome, Both Big Kev + myself have "chips" supplied by Parts King, who is a parts manager + very nice guy  at a genuine Toyota dealer in the UK, he can supply a "chip" which you can fit yourself in about 20mins..My chip is fitted to the 136 bhp version, whilst Kevs is fitted to the 177bhp which i believe you have, we can both reccomend them very highly, I am now going to direct you to the link below, which was a very long + sometimes heated debate about the SR180 chip as fitted to the Auris..Parts King answered all queries + even put up dynographs to show the worth of his "chip" and yet still there were doubters, You may find it interesting to read, but after reading please come back to us on here, as we are much nicer + friendlier people :D + will assist in anyway we can... Stew..PS the auris SR180 + RAV 180 share the same engine..

Hi Flash,

Can only concur with Stew, and due to only having the car for a month (last September), getting the Chip Kit fitted second hand by ex forum poster Mereside in October, I haven't really had the weather or inclination to do any strict mpg tests.

Does it do what it says....absolutely, although again I mainly took it on "heresay" from forum members.

It lends a degree of flexibility that was not there before, but I had no complaints before either. Do not read me wrong either....if you play with the extra power a bit too much, you need to get to know the guy who owns the local filling station!

I have read posts on the Avensis site mainly when I drove one about folk who bought these bolt-on pieces of electronics, only for their cars to go into "limp mode" on first drive/trial.

Parts King/Lindop Toyota's Kit will always have a cheaper alternative, but mine I think is testimony to their reliability and build quality, in that I am its second owner with no problems thus far.

I am in no way linked with Lindop Toyota, but am totally open to bribery and cheap bits for my car !!!!

Good luck with your decision,

Big Kev

Somehow Big Kev I knew you would be lurking around this thread in yer kilt and muttering "A la Rab C Nesbitt" for cheap bits......I blame your McScottyness! :D: :D: :D:

Thanks for the testimonials chaps, our kits do work and work very well, just contact me via PM for more details
