How To Change Ignition Barrel Mk1 Avensis Help!

hi new to this so you will have to bear with me

have a 1999 avensis td estate wich is used as a work runabout have lost keys for car and after some investigation have been told i will need to replace lock set and have ecu reprogrammed

i have bought a lock set of eBay and have an auto electrician who said he can do ecu for approx £100

does anyone out there know how to change ignition barrel

any help and advice will be greatly appreciated thank you

was just going to scrap car but seems ashame as she has 387000 miles on and still drives sweet as a nut (well it would if i could get into it!) :help:

you will have to

remove the under panels of the steering wheel ,

disengage the lock and undo the bolts and wiring to the barrel.

hi thanks do you know if original will come off as i have no key or will i have to drill it out?

it will just come out.

and on the rear of the barrel you will have the ignition switch.

remove put onto the new barrel and thats it.

Don't know for sure on these but on most vehicles the barrel will only come out of the steering lock assembly when the key is inserted and turned to the accessories position. At this point a spring loaded locking pin or lever can be pressed in to release the barrel from the lock assembly. This pin/lever will not depress in the off position (i.e. without the key)

If you have a new barrel complete with lock assembly, no problem.
