Hi All

I have recently bought the above mentioned AVENSIS BUT HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN STARTED FROM COLD IT SEEMS VERY NOISY ON ACCELARATING LIKE A RATTLING NOISE BIT LIKE PINKING ON A PETROL CAR BUT THIS SEEMS TO CLEAR ONCE IT HAS WARMED UP DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM OR KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS. THIS IS MY FIRST DIESEL SO MAYBE JUST ME NOT USED TO SOUND BUT IT DOES SEEM A BIT NOISIER THAN OTHER DIESELS I HAVE SEEN

hi mate

once the injectors have become a bit worn down they start to pour diesel and this rattle sound signals that the more portion of diesel is injected but not as designed. It is understood the warmer combustion chamber the less rattliing noise thanks to diesel heating up inside.

Hi mate, it's difficult to be 100% on this but I would say it is normal, my injectors have been fully tested recently and found to be absolutely spot on, my car is the same as yours and as most diesels are .... noisy when cold and always have been, as Igor has rightly said it is down to temperature/combustion in the cylinders.

Regards Pete.

Be interested to know if the injectors result in a significant improvement.

hi mate

yes - the injection process + its quality gives you either burning delay or lose of power + head ache for thinking - what is going on.

a bit of theory -- the injector control solenoid opens a needle stricktly 5-6 degrees prior to TDC (top dead centre)of the piston -- so it means the air themp reached its max to ignit diesel fog (!!!)-- in case injector "pours" diesel but not injects giving a real fog -- this leads to ignition time delay resulting yr diesel continues burning on the expantion stroke of the piston and this unburnt diesel is an equivalent of your power loss and others. so finally an uqual work of each injector is very important to prevent vibration etc giving joint connections releasing + a head ache of the AUTHOR typed this first issue with diesel smell. Cheers/Igor
