Theres three main stages of lowering:

Lowering springs on standard shocks

Lowering springs on aftermarket shocks

Coilovers

You don't need new shocks to have lowering springs! Most of the springs available are either -30mm or -40mm, a lot of people swear by the Tein S.Tech springs (-35mm front and -38mm rear) as being the best springs.

Shock wise, theres a few available, Koni and Spax are just two, some have damping adjustment and some dont.

Coilover wise not all kits have damping adjustment (like Tein Basics), but many do. Not all coilover kits have camber adjustment either (no aftermarket dampers have camber adjustment).

Often people get a pair of upper strut tower braces too when fittng springs/shocks/coilovers, most use the OMP ones, but a few others are available too.

Hope that helps...
