Hi There,

I know this has been discussed before but is anyone else disappointed with the petrol consumption of the Aygo? Ours struggles to reach 50 mpg despite conservative driving with little traffic. This is way below our expectation. I used to have a 1300cc A series Metro which did a genuine overall consumption of 50mpg with much better performance. The Aygo will exceed 50 mpg on a long motorway run at a steady 58 mph but overall its in its 40's mpg.

Ha 50mpg, I dream of 50mpg. As you can see from my 'Fuelly', I'm currently running at 43.5mpg.

I'm now achieving above 50 mpg... mostly urban driving, with a bit of motorway here and there, economical driving (changing gear early as possible, not using the breaks too much, anticipating etc). When I first got the car I was getting about 45 mpg, but now I've got used to it and I believe this is partly the reason for my improving economy. It depends very much on your driving style really, conservative doesn't automatically mean economical. Hope yours improves :)

I've just recently started using my wife's Aygo automatic for commuting 140 miles a day as my old tuned Alfa diesel is starting to become a moneypit.

I'm averaging 49.4mpg at the moment. That's about 5-6mpg more than I got from the diesel from the same journeys. I do mainly dual carriageways but I spend a lot of time stuck in queues. I was wondering if the poor MPG was down to the autobox being a bit too rev happy, so I've been trying to use higher gears wherever possible, but thats not made a great difference.

I guess if I was doing a steady 50mph on single lane A roads without stopping I might get nearer Toyota's claimed 66mpg. In the real world, on british roads, it's not acheivable IMHO.

Most people seem to find the mpg improves as the car does more miles, mine has only done about 4.5k so shoud get better next year.

Hi again,

Our Aygo is not an automatic. The way we use the car is to experience low traffic, it does not come a lot better than that but we still get less tham 50 mpg overall.

The car is still quite new with less than 3k miles, so perhaps it may improve slightly.

I did an oil change at 500 miles, the local dealership would would only sell me the oil they use, a thicker oil than Toyota specify. Eventually they obtailed the correct oil for me (but they still continue to use the wrong oil during servicing).

One of the reasons I wanted the correct oil, not the thicker stuff, was to ensure the best petrol consumption. Seems a bit hollow now...

Don't get me wrong, there some things I like about the car, its just that the petrol consumption is a big dissapointment.
