Welcome to the club.

Its hard to be specific without actually hearing it (can you add a bit more detail to your profile?). I'm assuming this is a 2009 diesel. For the first few years of production this 6 speed box received a lot of critisism (from me as well) about awkward gearchanging and mechanical noises. They have made various fixes over the years that have improved the quality of both and now in my opinion the 2009 models are about as far as you can go.

If I drive along in low gears and dip the clutch I can hear it whining but that is normal because all the gears are still spinning through oil drag - if you push it into neutral it will go quiet. What I can't comment on is what you heard "break" and if that is the case then you can only really take the word of the dealer, a second dealer and try to get a drive of another post 2009 vehicle (ask for a drive of the demonstrator again).

Keep us informed.
