Hi Scott.

I have mentioned to you in the past you seem to know your stuff and I have just seen how many posts you have put on our site, 6K plus, quite an achievement. I  am just amazed Toyota make a car with a sinking brake pedal and if it is well documented why they haven't repaired them all FOC as on face value it appears to be a design fault or am I reading the posts with the wrong thoughts in my head. If it is an accepted safe but design error could you enlighten me the basic reason as to why it happens, if you don't mind that is as I would be interested, without having to seek out documentation about it all to be told by a 'friend' on this site what the basic reason is.

With thanks, Mike.

Hi Mike, been here a long time - on my 3rd Avensis estate ...

I  am just amazed Toyota make a car with a sinking brake pedal and if it is well documented why they haven't repaired them all FOC as on face value it appears to be a design fault or am I reading the posts with the wrong thoughts in my head. If it is an accepted safe but design error could you enlighten me the basic reason as to why it happens,

I don't know if you clicked through above to read the full post from Parts-King (who works for Lindop Toyota) but as he said then:

"This is from the workshop procedure/service bulletins

If a large braking force is applied when the vehicle is stationary, the lack of feedback

from the brake system will allow the operator/driver to depress the pedal to the floor,

giving the feeling of lack of brake performance. If the same pedal force were to be

applied by the driver when driving, the brake force realised would be extremely high. The

driver would normally sense this, so such a great pedal force would not be applied. This

is a normal and expected condition. This applies to all Toyota vehicles fitted with A.B.S. &

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution."

So it is "as designed" behaviour & not faulty.
