Fuel Economy V. Miles Travelled

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Before I start let me point out that yes I do understand that there are many variables that need to be considered when looking at Fuel economy, I am simply preforming this investigation to cure my self of my own curiosity and also because it has been mentioned on these forms a few times and I want to check into the truth behind the thought.

Right to begin...basically looking at the various 'Fuel economy' posts and also peoples Fuelly (and other web sites) signature located economy metres I have noticed a pattern between how many miles a car has done and the economy the car gets.

It seems to be that the more miles that an Aygo has done, the more miles per gallon it seems to get. I wish to preform a bit of a study to see if this is just sheer coincidence on the ones I have looked at, or if there is an actual pattern.

Basically I am going to create a graph. Fairly simple stuff.

If people can reply to this post with the following:

-Miles on the clock:

-Average UK MPG:

After I have gathered a decent quantity of data I will create a graph to see if there is a pattern and post it up.

As I said before this doesn't cover all the factors that are involved to get good fuel economy, it just looks at one thing.

If your interested in knowing please keep an eye on this post, provided enough responses come in to get a good cross section of data I will post up the graph.

Cheers

Chris

May I suggest separating the data into two sets... say Aygo's that have done over 50k vs. Aygo's that have done under 25K and do a statistical test to see if there really is any difference? ... may be more useful than a graph :)

All my data is available from my Fuelly link.

For older cars you really want to get access to all there figures if they have them. Assuming they still drive in a similar way their data will be much more useful.
