Need Help With A 2001 Celica 190

Hi all

Hope someone can help.

I have seen a 2001 Celica 190 for sale with 106000 miles on the clock and I am very interested in it.

I just have a couple of questions. I know the answers must be out there somewhere but i'll be buggered if I can find them.

I thought the 190 had traction control, brake assist etc. But when I looked in the car there wasn't a button to turn them off. I know in the newer Toyotas that have these facilities there is a button. Any ideas?

The sunroof is painted black and peeling badly. Is it as easy as a paint job to fix it or is it a new unit?

I have always liked the celica but when I took it out for a drive today I was amazed. The kick you get when you go over 6000 rpm is fantastic.

Is there anything I should be looking for, apart from bodywork/paint damage?

Discs look like they could do with a change but I believe these are pretty cheap.

Drivers seat could do with a little repair where it has been scuffed in/out of the car.

Is it leather or vinyl. It seams like a daft question but the info I have found says it could have either one or the other.

Sorry there is a lot of info required but I really want to get the car this weekend.

Hope I have covered everything

Thanks in advance

As the owner of a 2001 gen 7 celica 190 I think i can answer your questions....

toyota started making a celica vvti190 version which has the more powerful vvtli engine technology in 2000 i think. the traction control and brake assist was only added to the T-sport model which came in 2002 so your 2001 model will not have it hence no button to turn off.

the sunroof is actually a "moon roof" made of a special plastic - the pealing is where someone has washed it with a chemical or abrasive - the surface should only be cleaned with water! i bet it would be just as expensive to re-coat as it is to replace

the discs you talk about needing replacing may not, the discs on celicas rust near the centre of the wheel almost instantly after being replaced - a design flaw in my opinion. when my needed replacing it was obvious by a reduced surface area visible where the pad presses on the disc and a tinny scratching noise where a little metal arm starts to touch as a warning bell. I guess you could try getting some anti rust replacments when the time comes for a little more money.

The seats in mine are leather and are just showing signs of wear at 60k miles so at 100k+ i guess it is a sign of the use common on all celicas where you get in and out

hope this is helpful...
