Toyota Carina E Boot Problem

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with a new problem on my Carina E 'P' reg: The boot will not open via central locking or just the key! Another problem is the failure of the rear wiper, but the rear lights do work!

Is there an easy solution to this problem that will enable me to fix it myself? I have checked the fuses and they all seem to be fine.

can u open the boot from inside the car using the boot release or do u not have that option on later models?

Presuming you can get in the boot with the release handle inside the car:

Rear wiper; Take the trim off the inside of the tailgate to expose the wiper motor disconnect the wires and you need a test light, i made one from a tail light fitting from a carina in the scrapyard. Connect one wire to earth and the other to one of the terminals you have just disconncted, turn on the rear wiper and check that the bulb illuminates (test both terminals) if not you have no power going to the motor which is electrical and not my forte. However if it does light up then the likelihood is it's the wiper motor that needs changed.

Boot lock; Does the key turn fully from left to right? If it does then while you have the trim off doing the wiper motor have a look at the locking mechanism to see if there is anything out of place put with it not working off the key or fob the probably its the solenoid.

It's really easy to change both the wiper motor and locking solenoid but if you're not confident get a haynes or i'll try and put up the destructions from my manual if i ever get a minute, oh and i don't think the wiper motor or solenoid are connected electrcally but i could be wrong.
