Iq 1.3 Wheel Spin (Over Powered?)

Hi Guys,

Does anyone else find that their IQ3s front wheels easily loose traction when pulling out of junctions and the like? I can never get the full power down without the wheels spinning all over the place.

Clutch control??

No this isn't a clutch control problem, it'as a tyre's width problem... as well on 1.3l as on 1.4 D4D (that you don't have in UK).

With just a little larger tyres (195 or 205) it would be ok.

185/50/17 (diameter + 0.06% but these tyres don't really exist...) or 205/45/17 (diameter -0.02%) would give you the same wheel diameter (and a very little diference on speed display) but would be very bad for comfort...

With 195/55/16 the diameter will increase +0.73%

With 205/50/16 it would be -0.81%

All diameter diferences given according 175/60/16 genuine IQ3 tyre.

If i could choose (and with no stupid new french law on tyre sizes) i would have changed my wheels for some 7" wide wheels with 195/55/16 tyres on...

The iQ has Traction Control so wheel spin should be minimal

The problem is that traction control doesn't really "control" something, it just stop the acceleration and there is a real loss in efficiency because when you get control back of acceleration the motor rpm has been lowered and you feel like you have to wait half an hour before a real acceleration LOL.

hi guys

its the Bridgestone eco tyres

the rubber compound is hard ie low friction low drag = good economy

having spent time on winter tyres & now fitted 185/55/16 yokahama c drives

i have a car that grips the road better & feels safer

especialy in the wet

now fitted 185/55/16 yokahama

185/55X16 is shorter than original 175/60X16

good size in 55 serie seems to be 195/55X16

Hi Folks, I too have noticed the lack of grip with these Eco tires.I don't rate them at all.Just wondering how they will perform in the rain.

Poorly, if mine's anything to go by.

....aquaplaning adds to the fun though, doesn't it?

If you need to use "full power" to get out of a junction then it would be much safer to wait for a bigger gap in traffic....

I have a very good grip on water (and could try it at 110 km/h under a lot of water with no problem).

Hey I'm not red lining here..... the wheels spin very easily and whats wrong when "other cars" can pull out at speed and mine can't... thats not right!

You have the answer........Tyres!

My Urban Cruiser is exactly the same, Eco tyres are hard wearing, change them for something softer.

Kingo

175/55 15's on the rear and 135/70 15's on the front. Now running 195/50 and 145/65 though :)

Handbook says 5j on iQ for both 15 & 16 though, will get it on the ramps & check on Tues!

Regarding to this you must be true :

I had a look at this one that is not accurate (even more for 16" wheel which is given in 6.5J and 5x112...)
