Vibration On Yaris 1.3 Auto 2002/52

Hi, I have just bought a 1.3 yaris auto. I have a strange vibration coming from the passenger footwell area. I get the vibration (which sounds a bit metalic)when pulling off - when the engine revs at a certain pitch. More likely to get the vibration when the car is in Drive rather than Neutral. As you pull off slow, the vibration appears and goes when you pick up speed/engine revs. Its like a resonance - like the natural frequency of vibration of the engine at certain revs, sets something off vibrating but the answer is what? Its driving me mad. It is very difficult and pretty much impossible to hear outside the car which is making it really hard to detect. I had the door pannel off today but found nothing. Checked out the plastic wheel arch lining too but not really found anything. Please any suggestions?

Thanks Paul

The plate behind the brake disc's make noise sometimes... They get a little bent and touch the disc... Or get stones lodged behind them. Take off a wheel and have a proper look../.

Also, it could be a driveshaft or wheel bearing. Most of these things make more noise in then out, on acceleration rather than coasting and when turning, rather than driving straight. BTW, what mileage has it done? I would recon the gearbox to be ok for quite a lot of miles, if the car has been driven well as they are very sturdy.

Just remembered.... Strange, but have the auxillary drivebelt checked too. They get a bit perished and make noise but as it may be worn at this age, a replacement wont hurt and may do some good!

Thanks for the info. I will have a look at the plate behind the brake disc. I don't think it is the drive shaft or anything like that because the noise is not there on acceleration or decelleration. Its seems to be purely the engine pitch. I checked the gearbox oil today and that seems fine too - redish pink with no burnt smell. The car has done 50k by the way.

Hi,

See my post recently about a similar noise. Did you resolve it?
