Light Spray Of Oil Coming Out Of Dump Valve

Hi, unfortunatley over the past few days ive noticed a light spray of oil coming from the dump valve. i am aware this is not a good sign and believe it could be either the turbo or oil seals, does anyone know of a way to prove either way, or if it could possible be anything else? i hadnt used the car in a couple of months and am unsure if that could be any influence.

Could anyone please advise me on my next step to cureing this problem?

thanks simon

to test the turbo, get the car warm and then go for a spirited blast for 10 15 mins, come back and leave the car idling for about 5-10 mins if the car starts emitting lots of thick white smoke then the turbo oil seals are a bit tired.

oil spray from the DV can also be a sign of damaged piston ringlands, the car will usually have a 'scoobieish' sound to it though and ideally will need a leakdown test to confirm.

a small film of oil is normal though but if the spray is getting heavier then that is a sign of trouble

thats how my car started. do you have other mods? i decasted the car and suffered boost creep which resulted in a broken piston and oil spraying out the dump valve. Like Dawesy said if thats the case it will be producing a different note.

Thanks alot for the help. It does appear as it is the turbo oil seals then as without testing it i know the car throws out alot of smoke when left idling for a while. Its done this for the past 2 years of me owning the car which i just put down to over fueling as it smelt of petrol when it does this.

I will look into prices of repairing turbo as the seller claimed it to be a stage 1. If i get another would a standard be ok or would i need an uprated one my mods are

. Dastek piggy back ECU

. Greedy boost controller set at 'Gain 28% set gain 0.80 - warning 1.00 warning L.5% hi 1.28 peak' (i dont understand the thing)

. complete stainless steel exhaust from turbo

. Samco hoses

. Baileys DV24 dump valve

. Large induction kit

thanks again for the help.

my advice would be to bin or sell the Dastek unichip, same with the Bailey's DV and buy a stronger DV, something like an HKS SSQV (personal fav.) this ought to net you enough money to buy a second hand turbo or pay part of the fee to get your hybridised ;)

I'm guessing your boost is set to 1bar, do you have a boost gague (sp?)?

if your happy to stick with a piggyback then an Emanage/Emanage ultimate would do the job just fine
