Been searching thorugh some older post about Toyota was 'going' to release a High performance Auris, maybe as a t-sport spec successer to the corolla t-sport but still doesnt appear to be one, the Auris already had a facelift, would of thought toyota released a high performance one by now?? so guess its a no go.? anyone know if there be ?

I would certainly welcome highly tweaked low co2 emitting hatchbacks. I.e the 150bhp setup. I'm glad I got a 180 but I'd rather toyota concentrate their sporting efforts elsewhere.

I would like toyota to re-engage their sporting pedigree but cutting co2 across their mass produced cars to leave space for higher powered highly tuned rear wheel drive, drivers cars.

I don't think it would be worth Toyota's time and money modifying the chassis, uprating the suspension and springs and to develop their own 2.0 litre unit naturally aspirated engine and sticking it all in a family hatch. The market is very small and it only pays off if you go for it big time.

The ft-86 will be the first of many exciting and successful sports cars. Using a rear wheel drive chassis and a Subaru boxer engine mates some exciting mechanical setups which will do a much better job of a tuned 2 litre Toyota unit on a fat heavy high riding Auris. IMO :)

There is a high performance Auris. In Japan, it's called the Blade Master G. It's got the 3.5 V6 from the Camry which maybe makes it a little too heavy to be a hot hatch, but imagine the acceleration in a car of that size. Unfortunately it's not available in Europe.

Not true... Japan has the Auris too

The Blade is the "upscale" version ;)

Toyota Blade

The upscale sister of the Auris is called the Blade. It replaced the Toyota Allex, which, in turn, was the replacement for the Toyota Sprinter. It has different front and rear sheetmetal, and is powered by Toyota's 2.4 litre 2AZ-FE engine. Recently Toyota released the Blade Master and Blade Master G, an upgraded trim of the Blade which features Toyota's 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp) 3.5 L 2GR-FE V6 engine, larger brakes, and an upgraded suspension.

Upscale me here and upscale me there. An upscale version is still a version.

Anyway, i hope there will be a high performance something. Except from the FT86. I just can't accept it as a Toyota when it has a Subaru engine. It's not the same as a Yamaha tuned engine that at least is based on a Toyota design.

The market as it is now is heading more and more to Direct injection Turbo Gasoline Engines for performance cars. At least the middle term ones. But Toyota doesn't have a single engine with this characteristics as so I don't see any HP Auris poping out. Moreover Toyota is really sleeping on the Diesel engines. The 1.4 and 2.0 with 90 and 130 hp is clearly not enough The 1.4 should be either replaced by an 1.6 or should have his power increased to 100 or 110. The 90 hp is ok for the Yaris but not so ok for the Auris which is very heavy. My opinion is that it should exist 3 engines with the following:

1.4 D4D: 100 hp

1.6(7) D4D: 125 hp

2.0 D4D: 150 hp

As for gasoline:

1.33 VVTI: 99 hp

1.6 VVTI: 132 hp

1.4 DIT: 150 hp

The 2.0 D4D and the 1.4 DIT (baptized by me off course but its a direct injection turbo engine) should have a more sportive Badge on it similar to the GT bade on the Golf.

Clearly there is a lack of engines in the Auris and not much choice.

You forgot the 2.0i turbo that sooner or later has to come in the Auris or the Avensis or both. The competition doesn't come from the US or Japan. It comes from Germany and is shaped like a Golf or Passat, which have a variety of turbocharged engines.

Regarding the Direct Injection, Toyota dropped it in it's 4 cylinder gasoline engines, in favor of the Valvematic variable lift technology. I just assume there is some problem involved in having both system

I guess the engines/ specification as it stands is good for its purpose i.e run around, family car, people with more than 1 children, company car regarding the diesel ones, but some say lack of demand/need for high performance? hmmm not sure on that part!!!ok toyota could of made abit more effort on corolla t-sport on certain issues in the past. But you gotta see other companies like ford has the ST and now the RS, honda has the civic type r and you gotta see how common it is on the roads must i go on... + you cant even get a 'faster' auris in a 1.8 or 2.0 petrol, whereas in aus/ japan parts of africa has a 1.8 auris & america has 1.8 or 2.4 in its corolla / matrix, i mean mazda 3 sport is a 2.0 & civic has a 1.8 toyota so need to make bit more a effort me think!!!

Actually the Honda Civic Type R has a 2.0 too, with 200+ horsepower. So you have Honda, Mazda, Ford, Volkswagen, all cars, that Toyota is supposed to be compeating with and they all have highperformance hatchback versions. They all have highperformance saloons too. I'm not saying all this green policy is a bad thing, but when that is all they care about, it starts to get boring.
