Diesel Engine Question

Is it true that the D4D diesel engine was also available in the 1st generation Avensis (before the facelift)... since 1999 AFAIK? I've never seen such a car in my country, but some used-car sites show such (like the German autoscout24).

Hi,

I don't know what you mean by 1st Generation but basically in the UK, Avensis (21x series) was launched in 1998. It had a revision in 2000 where slight cosmetic changes and VVTi engines for the petrol and D4D engines (1CD-FTV) for the diesels were put in. The pre-revised models had TD (2C-T) engines.

Thanks, but this still does not answer the question. I know that the facelift came with the VVT-i and D4D engines, but it seems that the D4D diesel was alaso available before the facelift (since 1999 if I'm right). Has anyone seen or heard about it?

BTW, shouldn't it be T22 (T220) for the pre-facelift version and T22 (T221) for the post-fecelift Avensis? I thought that T21 was the Carina's successor in Japan and was not sold as such in Europe (it might be the Caldina, but I'm not sure). I would appreciate it if anyone could give me any sure information on that subject.
