Clutch Noise

Hi,

For the past few days the yaris has had a whining noise when i lift the clutch, there's no slipping or anything else.

Its a 1.0 L (2002) with about 47,000 miles, does it sound like the thrust bearing is going?

It still has warranty that should cover it (hopefully), but any ideas on how much a clutch kit is anyway?

Thanks.

Sound like the release bearing is on the way out (though mine started making the noise about a a year ago after some 'auto driving' friends had been driving it for a couple of weeks :D ) and tbh it's still running fine

What type of clutch you get depends on whether you want to uprate it or not - though hopefully your warranty will cover it

Standard shouldn't be more than £100

Does the noise happen when the clutch is depressed or released, The way you have described it makes it sound more like the spigot bearing to me....

It does it when the clutch is released, nipping to the dealers today so we'll see how it goes, anyone fitted a clutch to a yaris?

Thanks for the replies.

Then it is more likely a spigot bearing or bearing within the gearbox. The thrust bearing is only used when you depress the clutch. Let us know what Mr Toyota has to say....

Not been to the dealers yet but will post back with what they say.

Just to add i can feel some vibration through the pedal as well when it happens, only slight though. If thats any use...

Thanks for the help

  • 3 weeks later...

Cars been in the garage and they recon its not the clutch, but the rear brakes sticking which is sending noise/vibration to the front when starting off etc. I think there is still clutch noise some where but will see how it goes.

So if you've got clutch noise, check your brakes :D
