Warning Buzzer Query (And Introduction!)

Hi all

Just joined having bought my 1st Toyota last week, an 06 RAV4 2.0 XT4. Changed from an 06 Saab (oil burner) that has been giving me all sorts of grief over the last number of months. Really like the new car and hoping that the Toyota (petrol) will prove to be much more dependable.

Anyways, in my pre-purchase research I found the info here to be invaluable so hats off to you all.

Just got the one query - with the Saab, headlights could be left on all the time and they would switch off when the key was removed from the ignition so I (and SWMBO) need to retrain ourselves to switch them off (I've had enough flat batteries this year to last quite some time thank you very much). It seem that the warning buzzer on the new Rav doesn't always sound when we leave the lights on. Any thoughts?

Hi Edmundo + welcome, sorry no-ones replied, I assume this is the 4.3 version (latest shape)yes I still find the lights a bit confusing, when you start up the whole dash lights up + its easy to think you have lights on, then when you stop + remove key, dash goes dark but side lights still on  however you should get an audible warning when you open the door + also if keys are still in the ignition, hope this is relevant as I've just noticed your Rav is 06 so might be a 4.2 model, anyway welcome to the club + lets hope this is your only problem, ENJOY  Stew

Hello there!

Wellcome to the club.

I could have sworn that my one beeps if lights are on (dipped beam), but doesn't if only sidelights are on. It seems to switch off the sidelights with ignition-off, but doesnt do that for other lights...

Aye, I find the "you left the key in"-beep particullarly annoying (and tend to follow it up with "I know, I just bleepin' turned the key!!!!" :))

Oh the fun of arguing with an inanimate object :)

Thanks guys. It's a 4.3 and the whole buzzer thing seems a bit random as it bleeped at me once earlier today but unsure whether that was due to side lights or dipped beam. Undoubtedly I'll continue to obsess about this for a while longer!!!
