Brakes Replacement/upgrade

Basicaly I'm looking to replace or upgrade the disc's on the front & rear of my car. The disc's are starting to score badly on the inner face & the braking surface is going a black colour.

With 97K on the clock I know it seems a little soon to be thinking of this, but when it comes to safety it's best to get things sorted.

So if anyone has suggestions to what combinations of disc's, pads would be a good buy could they let me know. I don't mind if I have to go to Mr. T for these as it's a safety issue.

Thanks in advance

on my previous avensis i put cheapy discs and pads on from the local car spares and they squeeked like mad everytime i braked, i have even heard that mintex do the same, the concensus was at the time that it was best to put toyota genuine stuff on to avoid this!!! dunno what the difference in price is but would be worth finding out!!

Hi,

Have used Ferrodo discs and pads from a local motor factors on both my Avensis and old Cavalier for 20 years / 350k miles and never had any problems with them at all - always felt first rate.

Did actualy buy, for the first time last month, some new front pads from Euro Car Parts as they are supposed to be selling OEM parts - again quality seems fine.

Brakes and cost is never a issue for me, but Mr.T's margin is plain silly.

If anyone suggests skimming the discs, forget it.

97k on the clock a little soon? you must be having a laugh. No wonder they are goosed. Modern brake pads (asbestos free) are extremely harsh on discs, not uncommon to have to fit new discs every pad set.

Previous poster is spot on re disk/pad life now that asbestos is not used in pads.

The disks/pads on my T180 have only lasted around 35K miles - just replaced the fronts with EBC Disks(Green pad variety)- so far so good.

2 X Disks and pads came in at around £130 from memory but they seem to be well rated

Re your brakes, I had the same issues not too long ago, it was time for a change of both pads and discs on the front. I bought non original discs and pads, and soon regretted it!

Loads of squaling, lots of attention from pedestrians arond me!! After trying various thingds to fix the squealing, i went to "Parts-King" on here, and he sorted me out with a set of new Mr T pads, and since then they have been spot on.

So I would contact him, he is very helpfuland will get you the parts delivered to your door usually next day, all at a less than dealer price. You could always go with a non original discs like Ferodo and buy Mr T pads to keep the costs down a bit. I will stick with Mr T pads from now on!

Good luck

Mike

Personally, I did quite a bit of research on the Forum prior to deciding on my new disk/pad combination.
