Diesel Leak In 2004 D4-D Avensis

Hi Guys,

Back for my yearly post :!Removed!: :D

I stalled my car pretty badly I think, when taking off from a red light. About 2 minutes later I stopped for another red light, I then noticed a really strong smell of diesel in the cabin. Drove a bit and then pulled into a layby to inspect.

It was night time, so using my torch I could see a small drip hitting the ground. I couldn't see where in the engine bay it was coming from. I have since got home and left her overnight, the ground is bone dry and there is no further signs of dripping since. I took her for a 10 minute drive which inluded going over some speed ramps and she is still drip and smell free.

My question is: Did the sudden stall result in an overflow action type thingy or do you think there may be something more to look at.

Many thanks in advance.

I would be tempted to remove engine cover and look at the injectors to see if any diesel is around their.

Also around the COntrol Valves.

hi mate

as far as i understand you have a comon rail. i do not conside the injectors -- cos all of them are under the rocker arms cover.

you cam smell it under way - it means under load -- it means you have to use yr fingers and touch each (!) fuel joints and connections vissible for you under bonet. the reason might be simple that due to vibration a joint connection got released giving you a leak under load. even small spot with fresh diesel must be considered by you in static condition of the system. for sure you have to remove an upper plastic cover to inspect yr rails with all connections; pipes to each injector. by the way -- check with yr oil smell -- whether or not it was disolved by diesel -- if positive then the spot of leak/s is under the rockers cover where pipes joint to each injector. you'd also conside fine fuel filter as possible source of leak. as to the HP fuel pump -- it has both SCVs (two) and pipes joints where leak/s might also be available due to vibration and contacts releasing. Now you'd give us the outcome of yr investigations. Good Luck/Igor

Hi cmia Igor,

You are gentlemen :thumbsup::toast:

A week later and there has been no further leaking or smells ??

I did find a small pool of diesel on an under tray, this I assume got disturbed when I stalled and spilled onto the road. However I don't really know what I'm looking for with regards to injectors. I did remove the upper engine covers and inspect for a leak, but I couldn't see any, however I did see some wet areas up top around some small pipes.

I'll take a picture of the suspect areas and post them for your viewing.

Again many thanks
