haha, very nice, lad can you afford to push the wheels out another 20mm with the big drop, even with the stretched tyres will it not be hitting the arch ?

i know exactly what you mean though, i often commented on that to myself about my car

Well, normally i will also let the rear wheel arches roll, so...

Maybe when i'm fully loaded that it will rub, we'll see ;)

Nice, wouldn't it be a good idea to invest in a sump guard though?

Sorry for my limited knowledge of english, but what's a sump guard? :P

It's a thick metal plate that covers the sump (bottom of the engine) to stop it from being damaged if you hit speed bumps. It's for really low cars and 4X4's

They look a bit like this:

Oh ok, that's clear!

Not such a bad idea actually, who knows...

Obviously it would be smaller than that  but it could look pretty trick under the car. I will hopefully fabricate my own metal covers for under the engine bay. :)

New update today!

Picked up the spacers today, and tried to fit them myself, which didn't work out very well :P

To replace the 4 stuts (if this is the good english word for it, the 4 things u screw the wheel on) i need to remove the brake caliper and rear from brake disk...

I never did that before, so, for my own safety i made an appointment at the tuning shop for that.

The 19th of june they'll be on.

Here a pic:

ok, i thought this would be more what you want, they pretty much look the same though.

you fit it on the hub and bolt in place, then the wheel bolts on to the bolts on the spacer

Not with my type of spacers :P

Really need to replace the bolts with the longer ones, i can't screw the spacer onto the original ones.

Posted

aw so yours is a spacer to fit a 4x100 or 4x108 ?

well not being smart but i think the one i put up would be a better option lad as you now have to get a bolt an extra 20mm longer which (over here at least) alot of people dont like to do as they say its too long for a bolt for wheels ?????

do you understand how the 1 i put up work, of course ours are 4 stud instead of 5 but are much more simple and iam told safer

Posted

Well actually i think my version of spacers are more safe.

The ones you show, they have to be tightened with on one more point, i'll try to explain.

The ones u show, the spacers theirselves are screwed on the original bolts (first "weak, possible" point to break).

On top of that, the wheel needs to be screwed ontop of the spacer. A 2nd "weak, possible" point where it can break when driving really tough surfaces.

The ones I have got, haven't got any more added points to screw it on, so that's one "weak" point avoided.

I hope i expressed myself abit understandable :P

Btw, the spacer is all 4x100.

Posted

yea thats the best way you could hope to explain it, some things are just hard to explain :)

well the way i would have thought it is that a really long bolt would have more chance of snapping then 2 short bolts ??? maybe not.

why is it 4x100 the whole way around, that silly, you would imagine they would have put 2 different sizes on it....or maybe its set up that it could be made into the style of 1 i put up ?????

To be able to switch it a half quarter or something? i don't know :P

Well, been to the toyo garage today, to change oil and stuff.

Seemed that my rear brakes needed to be changed, but...

The special safety bolt of my rims was laying at my house, so they couldn't replace those brakes there.

Said i'd try it myself then, not so hard.

Coming home, taking off the wheels to change brakes.

Old vs new:

Then i was thinking about trying the spacers.

Needed to take off the whole brake disk and center with bolts:

foto0140n.jpg

Replaced the original bolts with the longer ones from H&R, with spacer fitted:

At the right, without spacer:

Left, with spacer!

Loverly to look in the side mirror!! B)

Just this... While taking that last pic, on the "test drive" with new brakes and spacers, the tires rubbed like hell...

Already got one very bad scratch on my tire.

So, tomorrow i'll take the spacers off again, and wait untill my arches are rolled.

But, i know how it looks, and i love it ;)

The scratch in the tire from rubbing :(

Thanks ;)

But now this...

This morning i received one e-mail from a guy who said he wanted to roll my arches (i already contacted like 20 garages, but nobody is responding or they don't do that anymore).

So, went there to take a look on it.

After looking at it, he starts to explain what will happen.

This is what he said.

"When i have hammered the arches, it's possible your paint will split at the outside.

Then i'll have to abrade it, repaint it again. To avoid difference in colour, it's possble to repaint your back doors also."

I was like WHAT THE F***?

After just nodding yes, i asked him a price for it.

His price, hold on: € 800!!!!

Way too expensive, way too brutal, way too NUTS :D

So, the arches will have to wait abit more.

The t-sport bumper adversely, can be edited there.

We'll see.

Damn, i'm shcked about the arches :P

That H&R spacer kit dude. Do they come with the bolts or you have to buy sepratly?

Also do the do they do different diameters i.e 5mm, 10mm etc etc?

When i ordered the spacers, i had to say the brand and model of the car i have got, so they could send the right longer bolts with them, because original ones are too short.

Spacers are also in 5mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, etc.

This is without a dout, the nicest Corolla i have seen yet, love it!!

i hope to get mine looking this nice one day. once again, LOVE IT!!

To be honest with you mate I think the price is about right if it goes wrong.... but if they are worth their salt and don't split the paint as they roll them then it should be ok.

You will want to blend the paints so that you don't have a colour difference which makes it look sh!te. Just look at xclairex? and you'll see what problems she has had with her Corolla.

I hope you get the money soon dude! :D

EDIT: What spacer size did you use and how hard were the new studs to fit mate?

Posted

shes looking well lad

why are the wheels rubbing though ?

i would have thought with the coilovers giving a good stiff ride that it wouldnt rub ?

Yea, it is the price in case it goes wrong, but, he was talking as if he was sure it would go that way.

A little bit weardo actually. :P

I used 20mm per wheel, so a total of 40mm at the rear.

The longer studs were the hardest part of it all.

Removing the original ones is ok, but hammering the new ones in, that's a tough job ;)

Well actually i had left the rear more soft when installing the coilovers, already knowing the wheels were more inside.

I only had problems with rubbing at the front with my previous wheels, so i did only edit the front setup to hard.

We'll see when they're fitted again. In the worst case i'll raise the rear a bit and make it more stiff indeed ;)

ok thanks mate. I will see what I can do about doing this to the CTS. I think it'd look awesome.

It will for sure! :D

Hope u won't have problems rubbing then.

And btw, only use spacers especially made for our corolla models, that's the safest.

Great corolla! Very beautiful rims and I love the dropping. However, here in Greece with the extremely nasty roads you cannot lower the car so much...

Can you please say again the type of the rims?

Have you done anything as regards upgrading the engine? Is it a 1.4l or 1.6?

Thanks.

Thanks for the comment mate! ;)

Well, I'm living in Belgium, there are speedbumps everywhere, and about our roads: Belgium is THE n° 1 in EU list with worst roads, been in the news some weeks ago

The wheels are called ICE Cool Racing Tokyo.

Ice Cool racing is the brand, Tokyo is the model.

I have got a 1.4 D4D, only have got K&N air filter, front upper stut brace and open exhaust line.
