i got the timing belt done in my toyota avensis 02 d4d. the mechanic is happy that the timing and that is correct with the setup.. since then the car is lacking serious power there is not pep in its step if u get me. i not sure what the cause couls be the sympthons seems like dirty fuel but not sure if this could cause the thing to act like so. is there anything i should check out to see what the problem is. i was thinking of getting some injector cleaner to add with the fuel to clear up the problem of dirty fuel.

Take it back to the garage and be a bit more forceful, if was ok before the cambelt it should be now. The mechanic might be happy but he is not driving the car!!

You don't by any chance hear any valveknocking, do you?

went to another mechanic today he said it seems like the timing could be out a cog but it dont think it is as it seems to be fine on tick over and again on reving

The timing being off could likely cause lack or torque within a certain rpm range. Could also cause increased torque in another rpm range.

You know how on petrol engines vvt-i manipulates the timing over the whole rpm range to get a broather powerband. The same princeple goes for the timing being off, except that it's fixed, so it would likely cause lack of power in at low revs and increase at high revs, or vice versa.

hi mate

nothing is happened casualty. it seemes you ve left your car to a fitter but not a mechanic - these are two difer professions with difer qualifications, as well. so - that has hapened --- the part of diesel is being burnt on the expansion stroke but not in combustion chamber leading to power lack. this must be recognised undere warranty + forget the way to this "guru". Good luck/Igor

thanks for all the comments.

cant find anyone to redo the timing so i think me and my cousin who is a mechanic may go at it friday. jus wondering if there is timing marks on the pullies and where to see them if they are dont want to be going by the tipex marks left by the last lad. i guess the timing is rite on the cam shaft and crank shaft ie no valve noise but is there a mark on the injector pump that could be used to time off??

all help needed

To bigtomtom.

If you go to Autodata.com, you can download a picture of cambelt set up for a few Euro. Crank, fuel pump & camshaft all have timing marks, sounds like you might be a tooth out. If it was anymore i don't think your engine would still be running, your valves would have made friends with your pistons. Your cousin might need a puller for the bottom crank pulley.

Good Luck, Beagh.

What did the repair consist of, was it the pump timing or something else? I guess you will have told the other mechanic where he went wrong ... LOL!
