Avensis Verso D4D Engine Blew

I have a 02 D4D Avensis Verso with 87k on the clock - It is serviced every 6000 miles

On thursday whilst driving to work, I could hear a mechanical loud noise coming from the engine and very little power in the lower gears - after a couple of minuted the Oil Light came on and White smoke bellowed out of Exhaust. Immediatly turned engine off, got towed to a garage, who said bearing in the engine had gone, possible turbo failure and no oil in engine - was only serviced a couple of weeks ago.

Over the last few months it had been losing power in lower gears - EML light came on only once - took to a Toyota GArage who said one of the Injestors weren't firing correctly - they wanted 800 to change - which I didn't do - could this have caused engine to blow?

Now trying to get a second hand D4D Engine - does anyone know if the 2.0 D4D Turbo engine in a Avensis Saloon will work in the Avensis Verso D4D 2.0 Model?

Any other suggestions welcome?
