56 Plate Xt-4 Loss Of Power

The fault on my 56 plate XT-4 began as a flat spot at around 2,500- 3000 rpm and was intermittent.

Out last weekend with the caravan on the back it became much worse and eventually it wouldn't rev above 1500 and was starting to misfire. Not good when trying to climb hills! The fuel consumption had dropped from 36 MPG (towing) to 29MPG! Fortunatelty I wasn't far from home and limped there.

There were no warning lights and when I attached the code reader no faults were stored in the ECU.

Driving around locally I noticed that it would let you accelerate once with no problems and then limit at 1500 or so, again no warning lights and no fault codes.

Like another owner on the list mine is ex fleet reasonably high mileage with FSH.

I used my instinct and suspected fuel starvation, especially when I found out that the fuel filter had never been changed.

I removed the filter and the crap that came out was unbelievable. A new one has sorted the problem and restored full power and normal fuel comsumption.

Be warned Toyota want £41.80 for a fuel filter.

Hope this helps someone

Dave
