Hi all - well we went and ordered an Aygo after a bit of deliberation as to new/used and Aygo/C1...

Well the 'Blue' won it and with my local dealer matching a 'Drivethedeal' price it was a great deal worth going for. With me just waiting about 12 weeks for my own new car to be ordered/delivered it was quite a shock to here from order to collection would be under a week!

My wife's really looking forward to getting it and after her owning many small cars in the past, I don't think she'll be missing her current 4x4!

Any tips/pointers/things I should be looking for on a new Aygo? Any essential mods/extras/accessories I should be looking for??

Looking forward to 40-50 mpg and £20 road tax!

Hello there you lucky people

Ive had my Aygo 06 Black since last August and love it

There are some niggles that you will come across like

*Opening the boot when it raining = Rain in the car

*No light in the boot

*Passenger door doesn't trigger interior light

Tips

*Enjoy your new Aygo

*5th Gear as much as possible to save the petrol (Gear down for inclines only a 1litre engine :)

*At lights use Handbrake and Neutral to save the clutch

*If you need more Rear visibility throw the Rear headrests in the boot like me unless you need them

Accessories

*Longer Rear windscreen wiper if you think rear visibility isn't good enough

*A Rev Counter if your use to driving with one or not if you don't need one

*A Glove box lid if you need one

*I solved the water in car when opening boot by buying a Rubber tough boot liner from Toyota for £32

There is a massive list of Extra's to personalise your Aygo how you want everything else is up to you but

thats all i can think of im sure more members will help you, please post pictures of your Aygo when you get it

Thanks

Below my big moment getting my Aygo :) My First car by the way

Enjoy it! Tip for the lack of a boot light - just get a cheap magnetic or stick-on LED push-light from Asda, Halfords, B&Q, Homebase, Sainsbury's (anywhere really) and this will be handy if you're looking for something in the boot when it's dark. Otherwise, I've had my Aygo a few months now and I absolutely love driving it, and everyone comments on how spacious it is inside. I started off getting around 45 mpg, but I'm now averaging closer to 53, which I'm really pleased with. I was just getting used to the car I think, after having been driving something else prior to buying the Aygo.

I'd probably recommend the Rev Counter - don't have one myself but I can see that being the next thing I get. I've also got a non-slip mat which I got from Halfords, fits perfectly on the storage area above the radio, handy for keeping money/mobile phone from slipping around. I can see myself going for a flat-blade windscreen wiper as well, but my Aygo is 3 years old so your wiper will be fine for a good while yet! The bigger rear wiper might be worth getting though, as the standard wiper really is tiny!

All in all, it's a great little car and I'm sure you'll love every minute of it. Keep us posted :D

Oh!? Lurvleeee!

Good choice. I have the older Aygo blue. I hear the new verison has beeter sound proffing, and new engine mounts. Make sure you check you car for leeks. Oops, pardon the spelling. Probably notice it if your a vegetarian. I mean leaks. If you read this forum through youll probably find some owners have problems when it rains.

I must be one of the lucky few who doesn thave a leaky Aygo. Well, okay, my brother has a Aygo too, and he`s never complained it being wet.

Its very cheap motoring, and I ve only been to the petrol pumps just once this month. Well okay it depends on where you drive but in my old car I d be at the pumps every 2 weeks. I have noticed a difference in my wallet, and when I was paying £120 road tax, and sometimes didnt use the car. I did think it was a waste of money so I downgraded to a Aygo, and just paying £20 for road tax, and not always using the car makes sense.

You`ll love not only how cheap the motoring is, but how nimble a small car is in the town. Still have no idea why people drive huge 4x4s in cities where I live. I always nip through small spaces and leave the big huge "tanks" sitting behingd in traffic, or when one cant fit in s parking space, and I just glide in. Small cars = bags of fun! :yahoo:

Well done for your FIRST CAR! How things have chnaged. In my day, I drove a banged up Austin Montego. Google the name and check on images if your curious. lol. I thne drive another banged up Vauxhall Nova. I didnt actually buy my first "new2 car untill 4 years after I passed my test. In some wasy I m glad becasue I managed to dent, scrape, and eventually crashed the Montego. My Nova was burning oil, and have to say who actually drives a brown car nowadays.

So yes, youve done well, and nice car!!

My Aygo is my first car too :P and I love it. It gets so many good comments on its styling, roomy interior, engine note, everything. It surprised me actually as to how positively it was received by friends! Most of them drive done-up Fiestas, old Corsas etc which are fine as first cars, but they'll all be paying more for tax, more at the pumps etc :P Enjoy your BLUE anyway! :D

My First car......Austin 1100 (I'm 47)

Leaks......Not from the top, the sills filled up from the front wheelarches then drained into the car.

Screen washers......A black button on the dashboard that you used like a waterpistol

to pump the water out.

Wipers...... That didn't park. They stopped exactly where you switched them off.

Rear wiper......No.

Brakes......Sometimes.

Power......No.

Aircon......Wind down windows.

Seats......Hard plastic.

Carpet......Hard plastic.

Headlights......Dim yellow glow.

Reversing / fog light......No.

Interior......Steel dashboard with glass instruments that hurt your knees when you crash. (Yes, I did).

Windscreen......Toughened. A pebble hits it. It turns (for about 3 seconds) into a

millon pieces you can't see through then blows into the car. These pieces WILL ruin

the belts on your parents' vacuum cleaner.

You have just enough time to open your mouth to scream / shout F*****...... THEN the glass blows

into your open mouth / eyes.

Eeee kids these days......They don't know they're born.

Looking forward to 40-50 mpg and £20 road tax!

Revcounter, glovebox lid, lights to glovebox and boot and also I would suggest also an armrest, easy to install and have extra room for small stuff. I got mine from eBay.

I have had Aygo now about 16 months and yesterday filled up with 55+ mpg, best have been from last summer almost 58 mpg, hope to beat it this year!

Good luck and enjoy you Aygo! :toast:

Well thanks for all the comments and tips, we were due to be collecting about now......

.... but NOOOO! Dealer rung just as we were leaving home. Due to this fire in london that has knocked out masses of broadband, the dealers means of communicating with the DVLA to authorise their tax disc printing has failed. Was apparently due to be up this evening but no....

Therefore no Blue today - looking like i'm having to reschedule to Saturday - assuming the fault is rectified by then!!

Seriously annoying but hey ho. :(

:( Yeah very annoying indeed, but I guess it's beyond Toyota's control. Though I would've thought they'd have had that ready and done for you. Surely the telephones were still working? :P

Anyway, hope you get your Aygo soon! :D

Ha ha! Ya made me laugh old timer. "Dim yellow glow" What was the Austin 1100? Was it the Allegro, Princess? Pmsl. Oh, I have to mention. The Austin Montego which then became a Rover Montego was the ONLY car I drove. Okay it was my mums but I crashed it. Oops! It was the ONLY car where the indicator stalkers, or window wipers actually lit up. All cars nowadays dont seem to have this function unles you can name one?

Its okay to wait. Rememebr "good things come to those who wait". Remember to check for signs of leakage. Not all brand new cars sit indoors. I learned a few years beck from the news when the old Rover company went down. A lot of thier cars sat outdoors, and in a field. They couldnt sell a lot of them because the field flooded.

Check for dampness, or mould. Although it will be hard to tell as I m sure the car dealer will valet the car first, unless it was raining in London, and they held the car back because it was leaking!

If you do pick up the car, you have backs of fun. It took me about 2 weeks to get use to the car. The driving position is a little high. My Peugeot 106 was lower, but then again I did lower her 20mms. The Aygo is a city car, and in London, she`ll fit in. Also no road vongestion charge! FAB!

Allegro ??

Princess ??

Nowhere near as modern.

It was one of these......In this colour. "Harvest Gold".

See the pedestrian friendly shape of the front.

Solid steel bumpers. Sharp, hard, square. Protruding wipers.

Step in front of it at your peril !

Got it!

After a false start on Wednesday we now have it. First impressions - really impressed indeed - i love what the car stands for, no nonsence, no pretence etc.

Love its design and the way although quite basic, it still has flair! Wife had a Mini a couple of cars ago and although a similar size, was almost twicd the price and the complete oposite of the Aygo with its contrived, over stylised, over marketed image!

Amazed by how much room there is in the cabin and even in the rear, with my seat how I'd drive you can still get adults in the back!

Performance was never gonna be its trump (my last car of my own was a 6.1 litre 425bhp monster!) but dead impressed with how nippy it is, and the character of the 3 pot - it's a little noisey but I think that adds to the fun!

Anyway, hope to enjoy our ownership experience:)
