Gearstick Vibrates In 4Th - 2008 1.8 Tr Tourer

I recently bought a 2008 1.8 TR estate, 12k miles. The car is fine apart from a couple of niggles:

1. gearstick vibrates in 4th gear, but enough to generate an irritating low-level noise. If I nudge the gearstick the noise stops, but returns soon after. I've seen reports about 5th gear problems, but not 4th. Any ideas?

2. auto-sensing wipers. If they operate quickly i.e. heavy rain, they do not revert to slower operation when rain has eased/stopped. If I switch auto-sensing off and back on, then they slow down to a reasonable wipe speed. Changing auto-sensitivity makes no difference.

cant help you on the wipers.

But the gearlinkage bushs maybe worn.
