Timing Belt And Transmission

Good buy or Bad buy?

I just purchased a 98 Land Cruiser with 177,000 miles on it. The owner kept it very well maintained and had all of the records from the last 8 years or so. I have had a couple of discussions about the timing belt and the automatic transmission.

The manual or the books say change out the timing belt every 90,000 miles. Is that in stone? I have had a couple of mechanics tell me that after 150,000 miles is isn't wise to change the transmission fluid because there are so many particles in the fluid it would be better to leave it as it is and it will last longer. It is an everyday driver and has never been punished or road or abused. I paid $6500.00 for it and immediately got hooked.

Your thoughts and advice are welcome.
