Hi Lads,

New man on the block. I HAVE A CARINA E GLI 1.6 ON A L REG. 72,000 MILES.have had this great car 18 months and has been no prob, about 3 months ago i flooded engine and since then management light has been on.Took to a man who put a split pin between two connections in diagnostics socket

and counted the flashes when switching on.2 then pause then 1 then longer pause and then repeat.He said (code 21) lambda sensor in front of exhaust. I purchased a second hand working one from e bay for £30 quid and fitted it same prob.To complicate issue car has been pinking when engine labours for about a month and is only doing 33mpg.Any ideas or have i bought a faulty second hand lambda. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

The ECU notice that it doesn't get any good information from a sensor. Then IT BELIEVES that the sensor is faulty and start to lit the engine management light. It might also be the wiring to / from the sensor. It is always good to check the wiring in these cases. If the wiring is good, then I believe you have a faulty sensor or a faulty ECU.

Did you get the correct sensor. Double check the number on the sensors. There is a djungle of Toyota sensors. You mentioned that you had a 1.6 engine. If it is a lean burn engine you need to have a lean burn sensor. It is the same sensor in the 7A-FE engine. I don't remember the number on it. I replaced mine in January, with the only second hand found here in Sweden.
