Faulty Diagnostic Software?

Hello,

Owner of a 2.2 ltr diesel RAV4 here, with engine problems. I took up my problem at the RAV4 site at toyotaownersclub and got some suggestions there. Reason why I write here is the problem that my dealer do not find any fault codes in the diagnostic equipment. I get many stops of engine and I get sometimes "check engine system" (the engine symbol also lits up). When at the dealer he connects the equipment and....voila.... no code there. The dealer has of course problem to find the problem as no codes are available (and according to documentation from Anchorman there are lot and lot og fault codes available). Next time I get "check engine system" I feel I have to make a picture so they will believe me.

My question:

-Is this a common fault for Toyota?

-Is this a faulty software or are all fault codes reset when starting the engine?

-Can this be fixed?

Would love to hear your story (and solution for the problem, if there is a solution ofcourse).

Regards,

Norge from norway

Noone?

Is it possible to hook up diagnostic equipment (code reader) and drive with this connected? This way I might be able to read the code before it disappears again.

And wher do I buy such a code reader???

You will need a data logger/laptop with software hooked up to the OBD port and get it to read off all codes as and when they pop up. I don't know how much the software is though, but I have a feeling that you won't like the digits that pop up in a search...

A start would be to reset the ECU though.... :)
