Replacing the clutch on any car is a long and tough job. You have to remove the gearbox which is the hard part. Fitting the clutch itself is really quite straight forward, and when you've done it once you'll feel far more confident. :)

Once the gearbox is off you have a clear run at the clutch cover plate, take that off and watch that the drive plate doesn't fall on you. Then place the new drive plate on the centre, making sure it is facing the right way (box will show you) and hold it there until you place the cover plate over it. There should be flanges to slide it onto so you don't need to hold them the whole time! Try to keep the driven plate centralised with a metal tool of some sort (a socket set extension bar did it for me). Put all the cover plate bolts back in so they are finger tight and then start to do them up. Don't go round in a circle when you do them up though. Do the top, then the bottom, then the side then the other side etc. There are usually about 5-7 bolts depending on the car.

Make sure that the drive plate is centralised through the whole operation. The closer it is to the centre, the easier it is to slide the gearbox back on.

Put a lick of lithium based grease on the gearbox drive shaft splines (don't put loads on or the grease will fly off and contaminate the clutch material).

You'll need another person to get the gearbox off and on again. Raise it into position with a crane (you're an idiot if you try to do it by holding it) and keep slowly sliding it into position. You'll hear a kind of thwumm and the sound of grease moving when it finally goes back on. :)

This thread shows How I did it on my Corolla:

Build Thread - Clutch Fitment

It's a daunting task to experienced mechanics purely because of the faffing about and time it consumes. But it is very satisfying when complete. Double check everything that you do so that you don't find out you have done something wrong. You'll have to do it all over again otherwise. ;)

Good luck mate
