Rav4 - Help Needed

Think about getting one as a daily driver ..

Seems '95's are about 4k (about the right price) .. what are the known problems and are they any good?

I have not long bought a 1998 RAV 4 for the missus. The odd occasion I have managed to drive it ( Can't get her out of it ) it has been a pleasure to drive.

The 3S-FE engines are Very reliable ( providing serviced at correct intervals) & are responsive. We currently get around 25-28mpg running around town.

Only concern I have is to do with Clutch/Gearbox. Seems notchy & can be difficult to engage gear. I've heard reports of gearboxes going at around 60,000 miles.

Any other comments on clutches/gearboxes?

So they are the 3s-fe engine .. same block as the MR2, but with the econ head .. about 130bhp?

Interesting .. the G-box notchy problem sound the same as the MR2 ..

They are all 2.0 3S-FE engines.

Will see what happens with the g/box issue. Still have 11 months warranty on it.
