Hi I just got a new Aygo platinum (automatic) about 2 weeks ago. I found the engine is a bit noisier than I expected. Also I am just parking it by putting the shift lever to neutral which is not advised by the manuel. I don't know how to park it as suggested in the manuel, basically putting the lever to reversal. Anyone can help here? Thanks.

Sorry to hear you aren't entirely happy with your new car.

The Aygo is generally more noisy than more expensive cars because the car is a budget car and Toyota have saved money in this area. How is it noisy?

I have the MMT model and what I do is to put the car into E mode to go forward and the car will select the gear for you like any usual automatic. When you want to stop, brake and then put the car only into neutral when you have stopped moving. Apply the handbrake. This is enough to park the car.

I am not sure how else you can park the car given that there are limited options to select. The reserve is as it is called - a gear to allow you to go backwards. It has nothing to do with parking except to get your car into the position you requre it to be in.

Here goes......

The AYGO has a computer controled manual gearbox.

If you are leaving a manual car on a steep hill, it is normal practice

to leave your car in gear.

To do this in your Aygo:

Park up as normal.

Apply handbrake.

Foot on brake pedal.

Select "E" or "R" so the car goes into gear.

(You'll hear the clunk)

Turn ignition off.

(The gearstick will stay where you left it, in "R" or "E")

Your car is then parked up but with the driving wheels

connected to the engine. This means that if the handbrake comes off

or isn't applied properly, as the car moves off, it has to turn the engine over

which is difficult.

Just a "belt & braces" thing.

It's good practice to do it though.

Handbrakes are much better these days but can still fail!

When you come back to your car:

Turn ignition on.

Foot on brake.

Select "N"

Keep foot on brake to start engine.

Drive off as normal.

Ian.
