last wednesday night, i went a bit mental doing a few doughnuts in a car park, this guy i dont even know caught it all on a video camera (dunno why he had a video camera?) he called me over and showed it to me, i couldnt believe it, as i was spinnin round there was 3 foot flames shooting out the back, can always hear the exhaust pop but its really quite, the cars not though. Is it normal for a 4age ti be spitting flames a high revs (4 branch exhaust)

Pretty sure my Rev3 MR2 N/A pops flames you know. It pops all the time pretty loudly but once or twice it's produced more of a bang which can be felt through the whole car!

Flames are caused by fuel passing straight into the exhaust at valve overlap and igniting at the end of the hot exhaust tip (reacting with the oxygen in the air outside the car), so it's theoretically possible for any car without a cat and with a bit of power behind it to pop flames. Normally it's more common in cars running forced induction due to the higher temps involved, apparently.

If, however, your car is throwing huge flames out the back then it's probably over fuelling and that isn't good.
