Magnetic Fuel Savers? Do They Really Work?

Hi people...

I came across these magnetic fuel saver thingys on eBay...there supposed to lower your fuel consumption in some way by attatching them to your fuel lines/pipes. They come in pairs and they recommend a set of 4 pairs. Has anyone purchased them and tried them? Do they really work? Hey with these increasing fuel prices anything is worth a try. I wish i could afford to have an LPG conversion but thats a different story...wouldnt be worth it on a 2001 51 1.8vvti avensis SR with 86k on the clock!!! Please comment guys...thanks in advance!

Sammy

I guess they would be standard equipment on all cars from new if they really did work...

Also there is the old saying : "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably isn't true".

I bought a bargain pack containing 30 of these magnetic fuel savers and have fitted 10 to each of out family cars. So efficient are they we have to syphon off fuel every day. Thankfully we can now sell the extra fuel on as a nice little earner but please don't tell imform HMRC on me - pleaseeeeeeeeeeee.

Of course they just happen to be one of the oldest scams first known around since 1947 and seem to appear on various auction sites everytime there is a hike in fuel prices.

If they were effective the inventor would have been assasinated many years ago - probably by one of the big oil companies.:)

Hi Sam,

Am on my third full tank of petrol after using that Cataclean treatment and its still returning me 43-44 mpg which is about 10% up on my typical winter fuel consumption of about 38-40 mpg - usually does 40-42 in summer.

So recoken thats now paid for itself in just three fill ups - however don't know if any treament or device is worthwhile if as you say you are only doing 20 miles per week :ermm:

Cannot see any posible way these could work!! As in a earlier reply, if they worked all cars would be fitted with something similar.

They do work - your wallet is lighter, so you don't use as much fuel :)

Seriously, the claims are nonsensical. Aside from the dubious claims as to how the magnets work - petrol isn't conductive or magnetic, so magnets have no effect on it - the real point is that there is no lost energy for them to release. Petrol burns at something over 99% efficiency in a modern engine. The losses and inefficiencies are after it's burnt - turning reciprocating motion into circular motion, and radiating heat instead of harnessing it are the two biggies.

As far as I'm aware, VVTI aren't convertable to LPG.

Plus I know that some on here really don't like LPG conversions.

I saw these things tested on a US tv programme and they were proved to have no effect good or bad

As suggested they were simply a waste of money for the buyer

Send me 20 quid and I will send you a couple of fridge magnets to attach to your engine and you will get 100 miles per gallon, guaranteed or your money back (if you can find me!)

@Sam,

I know a magician who claims to have developed a new magic formula to improve performance in the broadest sence.

He tested it on snails, and it works.

He's now perfecting it on goats, and if that works, cars are next.

I can give him a call if you like?

Btw, he used to work for BMW...

Nope, VVTi NOT convertible to LPG. Used to own one, enquired and told no by two specialists.
