Intermittent Starting Problem

I have an intermittent starting problem with my '87 AE92 TVIS

I've tried changing the plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. When the car does start it's fine, no missing or anything untoward, but it just occasionally won't start.

I've had it for about 3 months and used it daily, and only now has this fault emerged.

Any ideas, anyone, as to what the cause could be?

grateful for any advice

:)

Hi Frybo.

Have you checked the Battery? May be it's at the end of life. You can do a quick check by trying to start the car and check the passengers light. If it dims a lot then go and check the Battery.

Hope it helps :)

I also suggest cleaning the Battery, I also suggest cleaning where the wire lead hooks to the thing that goes on the Battery.

A quick test, next time it wont start, turn on the head lights.

if they work but it wont turn over, then clean things up.

hey i have a 91 corolla and it does the same thing..it happens when i am driving and it is hot outside...someone told me that it might be the connection to your starter or maybe even the selenoid...the weird thing is...when u jump start it it starts perfectly fine.. its either a corroded connection to the starter or a connection someonewhere with the wire that goes to the starter...sometimes the rubber protective coat that surrounds the wire that leads to the starter gets melted and it doesnt have enough momentum when u start the car to pull the starter to start the car...just an idea....let me know if it helps...thanx
