I'm curious as to see if anyone else out there besides me trusts there car so's not to have any breakdown cover. Here's why I don't have any cover:

Whilst I had my Astra I ran that for 5 years with no breakdown cover until the beginning of the sixth year I broke down. Now this didn't annoy me because for those 5 years of not having cover I saved myself approx £120, AA price, (me and the wife) a year. Totalling £600. When I broke down I called the AA and joined there and then. For the cover and to come and rescue me at that time of joining it cost me £220. Therefore a savings over 5 years of £380.

Since that cover run out 3 years ago i'm doing the same again. Didn't have any cover for my following 'Y' Reg Astra and '02' Accord. Not spending out yearly for cover I never use and then paying for a rescue when I do need them.

Now I understand that If you breakdown on a yearly basis then it would be advisable to have some sort of cover. But with modern cars being more reliable, in general, is a yearly breakdown cover necessary?

Does anyone else do the same or similar, or am I being a silly billy here.................

Kind Regards

I cant remember the last time I broke down, I have run new Toyota cars for the last umpteen years. The last incident I had was when some t w it (replace that word for something else if you wish) saw an ambulance in the rear view mirror and swerved in front of me causing me to brake hard and hit the kerb. It ruined the wheel and tyre but I was able to swap it and carry on home

It is a dilemma, do you pay £59 a year, or not? Like any insurance, you only get the benefit if you need it, personally, if I wasnt in the trade, I would buy it, even though I have never used one for years, the last thing you want on a long journey is the hassle of somebody pulling out in front of you and wallop you get stuck in the middle of nowhere

But that's my point. Even if you had no cover you wouldn't be stuck in the middle of nowhere. You just join there and then pay the extra fee and wait to to get rescued. Just as if you did have cover. The only downside I can see is that you would be waiting a little longer than if you were already a member. Because they put you at the bottom of the rescue list.

Yes couldnt agree more, but for me, I wouldnt want the hassle, but thats just me. The list of insurance goes on forever doesnt it? Do you insure the dog? I never did, she had some accidents over the years I had her but paid as I went, probably saved a fortune! I paid silly money for house insurance over the years, Ive only ever claimed once when a pipe just broke away from the tank in the loft and brought the bedroom ceiling down  Not even that was an expensive job, just a hassle

It's a personal choice, it sounds like you might "see how it goes" and pay the AA/RAC if you ever need them. Nothing wrong with sticking a few quid away each month in your "Just in case" account :D: :D: :D:

With Toyota you can sign up for Club Toyota for about £59 which used to give full RAC and has just recently changed to AA. This would make your potential saving over 5 years £75. Although I've not had a breakdown for years, I think it's worth the money for peace of mind.

Just answering you question dont trust my auris as far as i could throw it only have it 9 months and sick of it one of the worst vehicles i have had:censor:

I would trade it in the morning except i would get a crap price against a Vw golf only other van i would consider buying

Last night went to a friends house parked up came out 20 min later not a glimmer of life in it !!!!!!Looks like

a fault in the ignition system had it back to Mr.T during the week on the toyota computer no fault and then this???

Absolutely raging love the look of it but just terrible for the following reasons:

1. Rattles

2. Brake squeek continuous and no solution it seems

3. Front seat Noises

4 .Rear side suspension Noise

Thats just a few things

A word of advice to anyone dont buy an Auris absolute pile of .....

3. Front seat Noises

Are you sure that the seats are making those noises? At first I thought like that too, but after looking into it I found out that the seatbelts were making that squeaky noise. Try to insert the seatbelt into the lock and then pull it back for a few times without pressing the red release button.

Best regards, Alex

To me this was a no brainer, i get the cover, it is not about reliability, but more about re-assurance and peace of mind... I know I will probably never need it, but the risk of having to be recovered once will cost in excess of 100 quid even a short recovery, just a tyre blowout or nasty puncture, will leave you stranded with a pump and go system that will not repair the tyre (need to be recovered), plus joining the toy club (59 quid) you get the top level cover and up to now you also got 50% for the second car in the household, so my missus town runner, cost less than 35 quid to cover ... and the insurance deals and other benefits could allow you to recover that expense very quickly...

I once played the "gamble" it backfired and cost me around 200 quid to be recovered to a garage on a sunday, taxi home £10, unable to go to work= 1 day holiday, 2nd day cost me a rental car to go to work, plus a taxi from rental return office to the garage to collect my car... this is not adding to it all the hassle and faffing around i had to do

in excess of 350 quid , so if i can avoid one of these incidents in 6 years ( at 60 quid club toyota rate) It will be worth it...

(as an aside, i have bought the 2 year extended warranty which gives me the club toy recovery free...)

Club toyota top level cover!!! Dont make me laugh, worst cover ive ever had!!!!!!!! June 2009 7.00am Hit a deer 70mph front end smashed to bits, phone clud toyota (RAC)and was told im not a member, quoted my membership card details again and was still told not a member (BY THE RAC)had to phone club toyotas customer services, told i was a member and they would inform the RAC 7.45am waiting for the rac or club toyota to rescue me. 12.00 nothing, 2.00 nothing 3.00pm phoned my ins company sorted in minutes recovery under way. 3.45pm toyato approved local accident centre phoned to tell me he had just got told to recover me!!!! on your bike MrTs lacky all sorted now. My car had £3500 worth of damage to the front end and i was forced to drive it home 22miles!!! and all because no one really gave a toss at the RAC or club toyota. I did received all my membership fee back on my car and my wifes car too plus a nominal amount of compensation to cover the lost hours in work, however what i really wanted was an explanation as to why i was not helped for 8 hours. MY ADVICE to all is dont bother with club toyota go direct to the AA or RAC and be a Proper member

£30 for 15 months cover, (50p a week!!)...Click

Bit of a no brainer really, especially if you have your family in the car with you.

If you have your children or wife or elderly parents in your car, the last thing you want to be stranded on a motorway or in the middle of nowhere without help.

£2 a month? No excuse really.

The price quoted (£30) only gives basic roadside cover, which is good if that is all that is required.

Club Toyota membership also provides a Home Start and full vehicle and passenger recovery or alternative transport if required

Club Toyota still represents very good value for money!

I think that having breakdown cover is just sensible, but in all honesty I do all my own work on the car so if something happens to it, I'll do my best to fix it myself. (I always carry a socket set).

If a towing service is needed, then one is called in to help. Simples.

It's not just about whether or not you trust your car, its also whether or not you are mechanically able and if you are willing to fix it yourself.

Ever been stranded 300 miles from home... at night... in the rain? Try getting ‘a friend’ to tow you off the motorway... it ain’t going to happen.

It’s negligent not having some form of recovery, only if it gets you and your passengers out of potential danger and stops you from becoming a hazard to other road users

Strangely yes I was once with my dad and grandad!

As mentioned by other members, we signed up there and then, but I do agree with you on it being negligent, its sense tbh. I don't even drive and I can see that!
